The Simpsons Star to Exit Series After 35 Years

As a devoted Simpsons fan with decades of laughter and nostalgia under my belt, I can’t help but feel a twinge of sadness as we bid farewell to one of Springfield’s most beloved characters – Milhouse Van Houten. Pamela Hayden has been the voice behind not just Milhouse, but also Jimbo Jones, Rod Flanders, and Todd Flanders, making her an integral part of the town’s colorful tapestry.

For nearly four decades, “The Simpsons” has been a staple on television screens, either animated or otherwise. Originally appearing in 1987 as part of “The Tracey Ullman Show,” the beloved family from Springfield eventually got their own series that continues to captivate audiences today. With no signs of slowing down, it seems one of the show’s main actors is preparing to depart before the final stop. Although the actor leaving may not portray Homer, Marge, Maggie, Bart, or Lisa, their absence will undoubtedly be felt among Springfield’s vibrant ensemble of characters.

I’m thrilled to share that Pamela Hayden, who’s been brilliantly portraying Milhouse Van Houten in “The Simpsons” for over three decades, is moving on from the show. From making us laugh as one of the funniest characters, to being Bart’s loyal friend and Lisa’s secret admirer, Milhouse has been a cherished part of the series. As we wait for upcoming episodes, it remains unclear if a new actor will step into those shoes or if this could be Milhouse’s farewell. Exciting times ahead!

THRILLHO: Milhouse And More Depart

Apart from portraying Milhouse, Pamela Hayden has also lent her voice to Jimbo Jones, Rod Flanders, and Todd Flanders throughout the series. Given her significant contributions to the show, it’s only fitting that she should retire at this stage. Her absence will surely be felt in the future cast lineup. Fortunately, Hulu managed to secure a new video interview with Hayden where she shares stories about her time on The Simpsons and discusses the inspiration behind bringing some of Springfield’s most iconic characters to life.

Appreciation for 35 years of Milhouse, and countless more, to the talented Pamela Hayden! Catch her last appearance on The Simpsons this coming Sunday on FOXTV, or streaming it the next day on Hulu.

The Simpsons’ Recasts

Over time, characters like Milhouse, Rod, Todd, and Jimbo aren’t the only Simpsons’ figures to undergo casting changes. In fact, we’ve witnessed characters such as Dr. Hibbert, Carl Carlson, Martin Prince, and Lunch Lady Doris switch voices for diverse reasons. Currently, The Simpsons is airing its thirty-fifth season and has been renewed for the thirty-sixth, but there’s no news yet about a potential thirty-seventh. This show’s enduring popularity is a testament to its remarkable longevity.

In a conversation with People Magazine, voice actor Hank Azaria, a regular in the series for many years, was taken aback by the thought that season thirty-six could be its final installment. As he pondered over the series’ conclusion during the interview, he expressed his curiosity, “I share your questions. After all, we’re working on Seasons 35 and 36. I suspect it might go up to 40. It seems to be thriving.

Due to Fox being taken over by Disney in recent times, “The Simpsons” have ventured into uncharted territories with incredible creativity. Characters like Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie, and others from Springfield have not only shared scenes with iconic Disney characters but also made appearances in the Marvel and Star Wars universes. If the show persists for upcoming seasons, fans of Springfield can anticipate even more crossovers as a result of the popularity of these events on Disney+.
