The Split creator teases future of show after Barcelona specials

As a film enthusiast with over two decades of watching, analyzing, and discussing television shows under my belt, I must say that the news of “The Split” returning for a Christmas special has me absolutely thrilled! Having followed this series since its inception, it’s not just the legal drama or the captivating storylines that have drawn me in – it’s the depth and complexity of the characters that keep me hooked.

The split returns for Christmas in a two-part Barcelona edition, but its creator Abi Morgan hints that it may not be the final farewell from the cherished BBC show.

Following a three-season hiatus spanning two years, the Defoe family is reunited in an entirely fresh setting as they travel to Spain to attend the wedding of their oldest child, Liv (Elizabeth Roberts), who is being married to Hannah (Nicola Walker) and Nathan’s (Stephen Mangan). The special episodes return to explore this family’s life.

Initially, Morgan intended for the legal series to last just three seasons, but her interest in reprising the role for the special episodes is strong, and she continues to express optimism regarding the show’s potential continuation.

It’s much the same as any other thing – parting is never easy, so perhaps we’ll meet again someday.

This isn’t just goodbye; it’s been an exceptional experience working on this show. I’m deeply thankful and I’ll always cherish the ‘family’ of cast members as precious gems, for they truly shine.

According to Deborah Findlay’s interview with TopMob, the entire cast of Morgan shares this gratitude for the show, and Findlay herself expresses eagerness to reprise her powerful role as Ruth if given the opportunity.

“I think all of us would jump at the chance, partly because Abi is so creative,” Findlay said.

“The tale always holds surprises – it’s never straightforward or easy to guess. It’s delightful that I’ve spent so many years getting to know these characters.

Findlay’s on-screen daughter Rose, portrayed by Fiona Dutton, expresses her strong enthusiasm about reprising her role in another season, considering the series a unique opportunity to participate.

In response to TopMob, Dutton expressed enthusiasm, saying “Absolutely! It’s not often that we come across something as special as this show. If there’s more for Abi to express, count me in, and I’m ready with all the trimmings!

The main point is determining if she’s willing and able to handle these roles, and if so, what actions we might take, and whether such an endeavor would be intriguing.
