The upcoming Street Fighter movie by Legendary is gaining momentum with significant castings, and now it has just made a captivating and unexpected choice. According to Deadline, Orville Peck – a renowned musician and Cabaret Emcee – is set for his first feature film role in this production. Although the character he’s playing hasn’t been revealed yet, recent speculations hint that he could be portraying the masked killer known as Vega.
The current lineup for this production is quite impressive. Currently confirmed are Peck, Walter Goggins, Jason Momoa, Noah Centineo, Eric Andre, Andrew Koji, and Roman Reigns (the Tribal Chief). At present, their roles haven’t been specified. However, speculation arises from a report by insider Jeff Sneider suggesting he may have leaked who each will portray in the movie.
A Stacked Cast
The report suggests that Goggins might be associated with M. Bison, Street Fighter’s notorious antagonist, while Vega appears to be linked to his namesake character. Interestingly, Andre may take on the role of the ring announcer, while Centineo could portray Ken Masters. Reigns seems to be up for Akuma, a well-known figure. As for Momoa and Koji, their roles haven’t been specified yet, but there’s speculation that Momoa could play Blanka or Sagat in the movie.
It’s been reported that Goggins is close to finalizing a deal to portray M. Bison, the primary antagonist in the film. This character was previously played by the late Raul Julia in the 1994 Street Fighter movie featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme. Meanwhile, Orville Peck is in negotiations for the role of Vega, a masked fighter known for combining Japanese ninjutsu and Spanish bullfighting techniques to defeat his adversaries. André is being considered for the part of the boisterous ring announcer who stirs up the crowd, given his previous collaboration with director Sakurai on the 2021 hidden camera comedy Bad Trip. Centineo is set to play Ken Masters, Ryu’s friend and rival who trained alongside Ryu since childhood. Lastly, Reigns is slated to portray Akuma, the younger brother of Gouken, Ryu and Ken’s master.
Although some prominent characters from this game are familiar to us, there are still a few unfamiliar faces yet to appear. Among them are iconic figures like Ryu and Chun-Li, along with others such as Cammy, Guile, and Dhalsim. The roster is already quite extensive, so it’s intriguing to speculate about the extent of the cast in the first movie and which characters may be reserved for a potential sequel if the film performs well enough to merit one.
Third Time’s the Charm
The latest Street Fighter movie is currently being led by Kitao Sakurai, who has stepped into the role after Danny and Michael Philippou, directors of Bring Her Back, had to leave due to scheduling issues. Despite this change in direction, the movie was initially slated for release in March 2026 on Sony’s schedule, but it has now been removed from their release calendar. However, with Sakurai at the helm, the film is back on track.
This marks the third instance that the movie adaptation of this franchise has graced the silver screen. The 1994 film Street Fighter found success both commercially and culturally, and it has remained a favorite for many years. The 2009 reboot, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, didn’t fare as well with critics or box office returns. Since then, there have been other adaptations, but this will be the first time since 2009 that the franchise is returning to the big screen.
