As a long-time gamer with a deep love for the Mario franchise, I can’t help but feel both excited and curious about the upcoming sequel to “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” The initial announcement of a follow-up was no surprise given the first movie’s impressive box office success. However, the recent revelation of the potential title and logo has me eagerly anticipating what lies ahead.
I’m thrilled to share that Nintendo and Illumination announced back in March that they’re making a sequel to “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” The release date is set for April 3, 2026. With the first film breaking box office records, a follow-up was inevitable. Although details are scarce, we now have our first glimpse of the title and logo. Thanks to an IMAX investor presentation, we can see that the sequel will be called “The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2.” The logo keeps the original design but adds a large red “2” next to it. A straightforward name and logo, but it effectively conveys the news!

As a longtime fan of Nintendo and Mario, I’ve been eagerly anticipating any news regarding the upcoming Mario movie. However, I want to make it clear that what we currently know is not set in stone. The title and logo that have been circulating online are unconfirmed by Nintendo and Illumination. In fact, they could change as we get closer to the release date.
In a hint towards future instalments, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” subtly introduced the possibility of a Yoshi sequel. A Yoshi egg was seen cracking open in Brooklyn’s sewers, and a group of these beloved characters momentarily appeared in the film’s background. Given their significance within the Mario universe since 1991, it’s reasonable to assume that they will play a more substantial role in the upcoming movie. Unfortunately, specifics regarding the sequel’s plot remain scarce at present.
