As an admirer, I find myself captivated by Will Mellor’s portrayal of Jimmy Spencer in The Teacher season 2. His ability to delve deep into the complexities of his character, particularly the emotional turmoil between him and his on-screen son Matt, played brilliantly by Forrest Bothwell, is nothing short of commendable.

View Urgent ForecastIn the second season of the anthology series “The Teacher,” actor Will Mellor takes on the role of Jimmy Spencer, a teacher involved in an affair with his married coworker Dani. This relationship quickly escalates and becomes chaotic.
Jimmy has a son named Matt, who attends the same school, and Matt is quite lively. In a recent interview, Mellor was questioned about the intense emotional scenes he acted out with Forrest Bothwell, the actor portraying Matt, and if there was any opportunity for them to foster a father-son bond prior to filming.
Mellor stated, “Instead, we jumped right into a heartfelt scene from a later episode. The setting is the living room, where Matt loses control and reveals that a knife was part of the incident during the school outing.
I found myself quite apprehensive during our initial scene together, as I hadn’t met Forrest yet and the context was crucial for our project. Without any prior warm-up or relationship development, we were diving right into the heart of where our journey would unfold. It was at that moment when I had to put my faith in our director.
He went on to say: “Forest is an exceptional performer, and I believe he has a brilliant future ahead of him. It’s advantageous for this role that he’s older playing younger. In fact, Forest is 21 years old while Matt is only 16. Sometimes, when there’s a slight age gap, the actor can be more daring in their acting.
Mellor stars alongside Kara Tointon in the series, with Tointon playing Dani.
Tointon described her character as someone who’s been married since she was fairly young, a relationship that originated during her time at university.
I found the role intriguing as it presented a character that people might initially disfavor, not due to any inherent wickedness, but because they may disagree with her decisions. This role is unique for me as it presents a character who is somewhat contentious yet not evil.
The Teacher season 2 will air from Monday 9th September to Thursday 12th September at 9pm on Channel 5. Stream on My5.
