The Thing: Remastered Features Over 1500 Code Changes, Less Punishing Difficulty

As a seasoned gamer with decades of survival horror under my belt, I must say that the announcement of “The Thing: Remastered” has me quivering with anticipation. The original game was a masterpiece of fear and tension, and the thought of experiencing it with updated graphics, improved mechanics, and quality-of-life changes is simply thrilling.

In an interview with SyFy Wire, fresh details have emerged about the remastered version of “The Thing”, originally released as a survival horror game in 2002. Beyond confirming the omission of scripted infections, director Mark Atkinson hints at other significant changes in store for this year’s release.

The remaster also features more than 1,500 code changes and 2,000 improvements to the art and levels. While we’ve seen the revamped lighting, character models, atmospheric effects, shadows, and more, there’s a lot of quality of life. Additional health and ammo are also available, with Atkinson noting the desire to fix areas where players found themselves low on the latter.

The HP system offers a degree of leniency, while boss battles are now centered around player skill. Whether the adjustable difficulty levels mentioned earlier will have an impact remains to be seen, but we’ll likely find out more as the title is scheduled to be showcased during the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted on December 5th.

The Thing: Remastered is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
