As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can confidently say that The Thing: Remastered has piqued my interest like few other titles have in recent memory. Having grown up with the original 2002 release, this remaster brings back fond memories of countless nights spent huddled around a campfire, eyes glued to the screen, heart pounding as I navigated through Outpost 31.
It appears that Xbox Wire may have given away the news a week ago, but now you can play “The Thing: Remastered” by Nightdive Studios on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Take a look at the launch trailer where Captain Blake and his crew uncover few survivors and terrifying secrets in Outpost 31.
2002’s remastered version of Computer Artworks’ game, titled “The Thing: Remastered“, maintains its squad-based gameplay, the mechanics involving fear and trust, and the unsettling body horror. Enhancements include updated character models, textures, ambiance, dynamic lighting, and compatibility with 4K and 144 FPS on modern gaming platforms such as current-generation consoles and PCs.
Nightdive highlighted approximately 1,500 code modifications and eliminated pre-scripted emotional outbursts for NPCs, enhancing the gameplay by creating a more tense atmosphere (also making it less challenging due to its adjustable difficulty). Additionally, some cutscenes have been reworked, and they now align better with John Carpenter’s original movie.
On all platforms, you can purchase “The Thing: Remastered” for $29.99. Here’s a glimpse of the gameplay, or delve deeper into our feature to discover more about the original version and the changes brought by this remaster.
