The Tower writer reveals he’s “already writing” season 4 – and what to expect

As a devoted fan of The Tower, I couldn’t be more thrilled to hear about the development of a fourth season! This series has been a captivating journey through the complexities of modern-day crime and societal issues, brilliantly portrayed by an exceptional cast.

Patron author Patrick Harbinson has shared that he’s been working on a new installment for the fourth season of ITV’s crime series, The Tower, drawing inspiration from the latest book penned by character Kate London.

This popular show delves into several pressing social matters that the United Kingdom is currently grappling with, starring Gemma Whelan, Tahirah Sharif, and Jimmy Akingbola as Detective Sergeant Sarah Collins, Lizzie Adama, and Detective Constable Steve Bradshaw respectively.

At a press conference celebrating the premiere of The Tower’s third season on both ITV1 and ITVX, Harbinson shared his optimism about the main characters’ futures, as the actors are excitedly looking forward to more.

He revealed: “I’m already writing the first episode of The Tower 4, just to show to ITV that we’re ready to go, because Kate [London] has already written a brilliant fourth novel, The Misper.

“I’m using that, and what a wonderful story for Lamar [Waves, who plays Ryan Kennedy].

Absolutely, they’re all here. It seems to me that Sarah and Lizzie still have quite a journey ahead – there are numerous captivating tales yet to be shared.

In the narrative, the protagonist witnesses Ryan being jailed for murdering a law enforcement official. The gritty book delves into “the destruction that powerful drug trafficking organizations can inflict upon the youth” and raises questions about “who is worthy of redemption”, as suggested in the summary.

Speaking of the social commentary woven into the series, Harbinson expressed: “In England, crime is constantly evolving – new crimes, new fears, new heroes. And honestly, I’d be thrilled to delve deeper into this ever-changing landscape.”

Apart from Whelan, she made clear her strong endorsement for another attempt, stating that the series has blossomed wonderfully since its initiation in November 2021, and serves a valuable community purpose as well.

She added: “I think that series 3 is better than ever. It’s easy to talk in platitudes, but we’re really into the stories; we’re into important things that we’re talking about, like knife crime.

Each time we work on a series, it feels like we’re delivering an essential and timely message, making it both engaging and beneficial for the public. Therefore, I am eager to embark on more projects in this vein.

Season 3 of The Tower will broadcast on ITV1 and ITVX starting Monday, September 2nd, all the way through to Thursday, September 5th, every evening at 9:00 PM.
