Nevertheless, fans have been treated to a high-budget streaming series on Paramount+, offering a point of comparison with the cherished video game. Moreover, there have been additional releases, marketed as movies but mainly serving as miniseries, animated productions, and other projects primarily produced by the gaming studio to publicize its upcoming game launches.

Fans of the video game “Halo,” introduced in 2001, have expressed dissatisfaction with its streaming series that spanned two seasons before getting canceled. However, less-discussed films, animation projects, and miniseries have been truer to the source material. Here’s a guide on watching them sequentially.

The First Halo Movie Came Out In 2007

The main intention behind this release was to demonstrate the settings and special effects featured in Halo 3, the game. Consequently, it served more as a promotional tool for the video game than a vehicle for a unified narrative. The third of these shorts was unveiled prior to the video game launch to pave the way for the gaming experience.

The story served as an introduction, detailing the events that transpired prior to the commencement of Halo 3. This narrative encompassed the Human-Covenant War and a centuries-old parasite called the Flood. In the game, Master Chief spearheaded the fight against both the Covenant and the Flood. Initially released individually before Halo 3, these three short films were eventually compiled into a single collection and uploaded on Bungie’s YouTube channel. The story revolves around a group of UNSC military academy students who are oblivious to the Human-Covenant War’s start until they’re thrust into combat.

Set in the initial phase of the conflict, this narrative unfolds through the eyes of green recruits who are oblivious to the challenges they’re about to face. The protagonist is Thomas Lasky (Thom Green), a fresh recruit who unexpectedly finds himself in a leadership position, modeled after John-117. Although Master Chief doesn’t play a significant role, he does make a brief appearance. Originally released as a web series, it was later distributed as a full-length movie on DVD and Blu-ray.

Halo: Nightfall (2014)

Halo: Nightfall was the second live-action adaptation, yet it was filmed like a short movie. Despite being classified as a short film, it boasts the most well-known title among non-Paramount Halo releases. The narrative of “Nightfall” unfolds as the backstory for Agent Locke, linking the events of “Halo 4” to those of “Halo 5”. This tale is set in the aftermath of the Human-Covenant War, where Locke leads his squad to prevent the Sangheili Elites from detonating a deadly biological weapon. The Biggest Budget Halo Release To Date

The popular Halo series released on Paramount+ in 2022 is not directly linked to the storyline of the original game. Despite sharing the same name, it stands apart as part of a different timeline, distinct from the games and previous Halo movies and shows. This new continuity is known as the “Silver” timeline, as it introduces changes significant enough to alter the outcome of Madrigal and The Rubble’s settlement.

Initially, the first season of the show garnered harsh criticism, and fans’ disapproval was palpable. Conversely, the second season was more favorably received, yet it didn’t align with the tales that gamers had become fond of. Regrettably, even this improvement wasn’t sufficient to save Halo, which concluded after a total of two seasons on Paramount+ in 2024. The series focuses on Dr. Catherine Halsey, John-117 (Master Chief), and the Silver Team during the Covenant War, spanning across 17 episodes throughout its run.

There Are Two Halo Timelines In Movies
