This month, Netflix premiered season three of The Ultimatum, and it seemed like there were an infinite number of surprises and plot twists starting right from day one.
If you missed it, the episode four of the show saw an unexpected turn when couples Vanessa Hattaway and Dave Adams, along with Micah Hardeman and Chanel Watkins, chose to depart from the experiment. They felt the new trial partners weren’t working out for them, so they gathered their possessions and left the show in the middle of the night as a group.
Needless to say, the excitement didn’t subside for me as the dynamic between Sandy Gallagher, who initially joined forces with Nick Tramontin, and J.R. Warren, who entered the scene with his partner Zaina Sesay, started simmering intensely.
However, not everyone’s temporary marriage went as smoothly.
One particularly stressful encounter for Scotty Lewis was his tumultuous relationship with his trial partner Zaina, resulting in an ultimately heated argument that marked their time together. As for Mariah Zernik and Caleb Lefterys, due to the unexpected changes among the other four participants, Mariah (alongside Nick) found themselves navigating the experiment on their own, adding another layer of uncertainty to their experience.

Following their trial marriage assignment with Aria De’Westbrooks, Caleb embarked on uncharted territory, whereas Mariah endured the ordeal by herself as her partner, Micah Hardeman, departed from the show (accompanied by three others). Although rumors circulated about a potential emotional bond between Caleb and Aria, upon reunion with Mariah, Caleb realized that Mariah was his match and proposed.
Despite being met with controversy this season due to his strained interactions with Zaina Sesay, becoming a topic of discussion, Scotty eventually decided that he was ready to marry his girlfriend Aria, who they had been together for three years. In the finale, Scotty proposed, and after an emotional response from Aria, she happily accepted.
A contentious duo who swiftly grabbed the limelight were Sandy and Nick, as tensions arose between Sandy and her trial partner, J.R. Warren, almost instantly after sparks ignited between them.
In an unfortunate turn of events, Nick – who prematurely left the partnership with Vanessa Hattaway – subsequently appeared at the shared apartment of he and J.R., following a personal breakdown. Yet, it’s important to note that this did not prevent Sandy and J.R. from developing a close connection. In fact, they exchanged several kisses, and J.R. even referred to Sandy as his “spouse.
Ultimately, Nick and Sandy part ways at the end of their story, as Nick (the one who set the condition) informs Sandy that he doubts her readiness for matrimony.
Following their separate trial marriages, Zaina and J.R. appeared keen to rekindle their almost three-year-long romance.
Ultimately, when the crunch time arrived, the duo concurred they functioned best apart. As for any prospects of J.R. and Sandy reconciling in the future? Even before his encounter with Zaina, Sandy had concluded that they were simply better suited as friends.
Despite initially getting along with Dave Adams, Chanel, who had given an ultimatum to her boyfriend Micah, parted ways with him on their first night together as a new couple. It wasn’t only Chanel and Micah who faced issues in their relationship when the changeover occurred; Dave and his girlfriend Vanessa also chose to exit the experiment at that point.
Indeed, according to Netflix, the quartet secretly convened away from the cameras, preparing to depart and embark on a journey, abandoning the remainder of the season in their past.
Since then, it appears that Chanel and Micah have continued their relationship, often humorously referencing their time together on the show through their TikTok posts.

In the second season of “The Ultimatum,” it came as a surprise when a couple decided to withdraw from the process.
