The Undertaker Told Top WWE Star "You're My Guy," Wants to Wrestle Him

As a gamer with over two decades of wrestling fandom under my belt, I’ve seen legends rise and fall, but none quite like The Undertaker. From his iconic entrance to his unmatched in-ring prowess, Taker was always a cut above the rest. His retirement in 2020 was bittersweet, as it marked the end of an era, yet I couldn’t help but feel a sense of relief knowing he was hanging up his boots for good.

In April 2020, The Undertaker decided to retire from wrestling. For six years before this, he had been considering retirement, but eventually his body could no longer keep up with wrestling, causing him to retire both literally and figuratively after defeating AJ Styles in a special match at WWE WrestleMania 36. Since then, The Undertaker has been connected with professional wrestling, visiting friends backstage at WWE events and occasionally making appearances on shows like WWE Monday Night Raw or WWE premium live events. He has stated that he still misses the sport but knows his active days are behind him.

The Ring General has caught The Undertaker’s attention.

On the Six Feet Under Podcast, Taker mentioned that Gunther, the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion, is someone he considers his top choice, and he shared this sentiment with him just a few weeks prior.

According to Taker, he had expressed, “‘You are the one for me.'” To this, the other person responded, “‘It seems you have complimented me greatly.'” Taker agreed and joked, “‘Just don’t mess it up.'” [laughs]

Gunther has been one of WWE’s most dominant forces of the modern era. He signed with the company back in January 2019 and immediately ascended to the top of NXT UK, capturing the NXT UK Championship from then-longest-reigning titleholder Pete Dunne. Gunther went on to hold that title for 870 days, the longest reign of the modern era at the time. Upon joining the main roster, Gunther captured the WWE Intercontinental Championship and shattered a 36-year old record en route to becoming that title’s longest-reigning champion. Gunther has since graduated again, this time ascending to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, a title that he has already defended against top stars like Randy Orton and Sami Zayn.

In a very flattering manner, Taker has been lavishing praise on Gunther’s work, appreciating the vintage wrestling style of the ex-Imperium leader, both in terms of character and performance in the ring. This is why Taker thinks they would have made excellent dance partners if they were in a different time period.

It’s fascinating to imagine him battling The Undertaker; that’s the match I would have been thrilled to witness,” he added. “A few weeks back, when we met in Austin, I shared my thoughts with him. I said something like, ‘Dude, we could have made a lot of money together.’ He was quite polite. He responded, ‘Thank you.’

Gunther is set to face WWE Champion Cody Rhodes at WWE Crown Jewel on Saturday, November 2nd.
