As a gamer with a penchant for action-packed films and a soft spot for ensemble casts, I found myself thoroughly entertained by “The Union” on Netflix. With its star-studded lineup, led by the formidable Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg, this flick offers an intriguing twist on the spy genre.
Over the weekend, “The Union” debuted on Netflix, offering a high-octane action storyline with an illustrious ensemble headed by Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg. Berry embodies Roxanne, a character belonging to an enigmatic underground group known as The Union, which tackles tasks too perilous for the CIA. The Union often recruits working-class individuals, prompting Roxanne to turn to her former high school sweetheart (Wahlberg) for assistance in a hazardous intelligence operation across Europe. At the movie’s premiere in LA, ComicBook caught up with the cast to discuss the dynamic onscreen pairing of Berry and Wahlberg. Additionally, some actors offered their insights into the film and its intriguing title entity.
Jackie Earle Haley commented, “I found it quite inventive.” He explained, “Typically, we think about agencies like the CIA, NSA, MI-6, etc. But in our story, J.K. Simmons creates this secret intelligence agency. Instead of recruiting spies, he goes after everyday people – a factory foreman, a fighter pilot, and so on. Essentially, he assembles an unusual team.”
He said, “At some point prior to the movie beginning, all of us were like Mark Wahlberg’s character – completely out of our depth, needing training, and eventually becoming experts. Now, we’re too well-known for this task. We need someone who isn’t recognized. It seems Halle suggested J.K. to her old high school crush because he possesses certain abilities.”
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje remarked, “It was fantastic! First off, the cast was terrific. I had a chance to reunite with J.K. Simmons, whom I hadn’t worked with in 20 years since our time on Oz. It was wonderful to see him again and share scenes with him once more.”
Mike Colter simply believes that viewers should understand this movie is meant for pure entertainment. It’s an exhilarating rollercoaster ride with lots of action, humor, and even a touch of romance. The stunning set pieces and locations make it an engaging experience from beginning to end.
The Union is now streaming on Netflix.
