As a seasoned movie buff with a penchant for epic fantasy series and a soft spot for strong female characters, I am thrilled to see Olivia Williams joining The Wheel of Time‘s cast as Queen Morgase Trakand. Her portrayal of Tula Harkonnen in Dune: Prophecy has already shown her prowess in the realm of high fantasy, and I can’t wait to witness her embody one of the Westlands’ most powerful monarchs.
In the latest news, the royal family for Season 3 of “The Wheel of Time” has been cast. On Wednesday, it was revealed that Olivia Williams will portray Queen Morgase Trakand, Callum Kerr will take on the role of her son Lord Gawyn from House Trakand, and Luke Fetherston will play Gawyn’s half-brother, Lord Galad, also from House Trakand. This announcement was made by Prime Video’s original series team, as reported by TV Line. The new season is set to premiere on Thursday, March 15, 2025, exclusively on Prime Video.
Now two seasons into “The Wheel of Time”, the series has started introducing its vast array of characters. The lineup will expand further in Season 3, focusing on the royal court of Andor and its ruler, Williams. Known for portraying Tula Harkonnen in HBO’s “Dune: Prophecy”, it seems she can easily transition into one of the Westlands’ most influential queens. Viewers have already been acquainted with her daughter Elayne in Season 2, played by Ceara Coveney, but in the White Tower, she is estranged from her family.
By interacting with other members of House Trakand, Elayne’s character will be further developed. Since Andor is a matriarchal kingdom, Elayne is Morgase’s heir to the throne, yet her brothers are equally significant. Kerr’s character Gawyn, the eldest sibling, is destined to become a formidable warrior, safeguarding and counseling his sister as the First Prince of the Sword. Fetherston’s character Galad, Elayne and Gawyn’s paternal half-brother, has an uncertain role at court. His personal quest for identity will create conflicts with several familiar characters.
In addition to the earlier announced actors Nuno Lopes and Shohreh Aghdashloo, three more individuals have been added to the cast. Lopes takes on the role of Morgase’s companion, Lord Gaebril, while Aghdashloo portrays a formidable new Aes Sedai named Elaida do Avriny a’Roihan. As usual, the Aes Sedai will be at the heart of the story this season, as we saw in Season 2 that their hidden power, known as “Black Ajah,” is immense. Among other factions, the Aes Sedai are competing for control over Rand, who has now been officially recognized as the Dragon Reborn.
The television adaptation titled “The Wheel of Time” takes on the extensive 14-book fantasy saga penned by Robert Jordan during the 90s and 00s, with Brandon Sanderson completing it after his death. The third season is set to encompass the fourth and fifth books in the series for those who are following along. Readers can obtain these books in print, digital, or audiobook formats currently. The first two seasons of “The Wheel of Time” are available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video right now. The third season of “The Wheel of Time” will debut on Thursday, March 15 on Prime Video.
