Five new cast members, Isabella Bucceri, Nukâka Coster-Waldau, Salóme Gunnarsdóttir, Björn Landberg, and Synnøve Macody Lund, have been added to “The Wheel of Time” series ahead of its Season 3 premiere on March 13th. Amazon Studios revealed these additions on Thursday. These actors will portray beloved characters from the books for avid readers.
In this fictional series, Coster-Waldau portrays Bair, Gunnarsdóttir depicts Melaine, and Landberg takes on the role of Rhuarc. These characters are part of the Taardad Aiel – a group of red-haired desert dwellers who have displayed remarkable combat skills in the show’s most thrilling action scene so far. Bair and Melaine hold significant positions among the Aiel, much like how Aes Sedai govern the Westlands, as they are known as the “Wise Ones.” Rhuarc is the leader of their clan. Lund’s character, Melhindra, is a Malkieri woman who stands out as one of the rare outsiders to live among the Taardad Aiel.
As a film enthusiast, I’m eagerly anticipating Bucceri portraying Faiel Bashere, a Saldaean woman embarking on a personal journey far from home in search of the legendary Horn of Valere. In this world, the role of a “Hunter of the Horn” is an age-old tradition, yet our characters have already unearthed this enchanted artifact. Viewers are aware that Mat (Dónal Finn) blew the horn at the end of Season 2, leaving those on similar quests feeling a sense of letdown. This season, however, will lead us back to the Two Rivers, revisiting where it all began for an exciting retrospect.
In a twist of excitement, it’s not surprising that the ensemble of actors in the TV adaptation of “The Wheel of Time” series is growing swiftly. Book enthusiasts delight at recognizing characters such as Rhuarc and Faiel among the cast, although newcomers might find themselves overwhelmed by the intricate web of stories and storylines. This epic series towers over other adaptations with grand ambitions, like “Game of Thrones,” but due to its sheer scale, the show has had to simplify certain aspects thus far.
Previously announced cast additions for Season 3 have generated excitement among fans, with a long-awaited favorite making an appearance – Shohreh Aghdashloo portraying Elaida a’Roihan, the Aes Sedai. In addition, Olivia Williams will be Queen Morgase Trakand, Luke Fetherston as Gawyn Trakand, Callum Kerr as Galad Trakand, and Nuno Lopes as Lord Gaebril. As per showrunner Rafe Judkins, Season 3 will adapt the happenings from the fourth and fifth novels in the series – “The Shadow Rising” and “The Fires of Heaven.
Beginning on the 13th of March (next Thursday), The Wheel of Time’s third season will make its debut on Amazon Prime Video. You can currently stream the first two seasons on the platform. The books are readily accessible as well, in print, digital, and audiobook formats.
