The White Lotus Villain’s Shocking Return Revealed

Warning: spoilers for The White Lotus season 3 episode 1.

In a fresh start for The White Lotus’s third season, the initial episode unveiled an explosive secret: Jon Gries reappears as character Greg.

In each of the three seasons, this character has made an appearance, playing the main antagonist in a satirical drama. Initially, they were introduced as a suitor for heiress Tanya McQuoid (Jennifer Coolidge), and subsequently, they orchestrated her downfall.

In the second season, the cherished figure bravely fended off an assassination attempt, yet tragically passed away soon after, failing to reach the lifeboat of a lavish yacht in a failed rescue attempt. Consequently, this left Greg poised to claim her substantial fortune, fulfilling his premeditated scheme.

As I delved into the intriguing second season of “The White Lotus,” I couldn’t help but notice the mysterious return of the character Greg in Thailand. This unexpected reappearance has me convinced that there are more secrets yet to unravel from this ominous storyline. In a recent chat with Time Magazine, the brilliant mind behind the series, Mike White, hinted at the continuation of this enigmatic subplot, leaving viewers like myself eagerly anticipating the unfolding mysteries.

He joked, saying, “I became quite enthusiastic when I thought to myself: ‘Here’s a way we can continue the Tanya narrative!’

As a movie buff, I can’t help but be drawn to Thailand – just like the characters in the show who find themselves hidden among the glamorous hideaways of the country. It seems that wealthy expats aren’t the only ones keeping a low profile here; it’s also an appealing cover for someone on the run, as suggested by White in the series.

The screenwriter went on to describe, “This is the destination and the circumstance we find him in. Interestingly, these characters often have a female companion – typically younger – but it seems as though they don’t have many others in their lives.

It appears that Greg’s relationship with Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon) is not without its problems, drawing parallels to the seemingly frosty bond shared by Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) and Rick (Walton Goggins).

Remarkably, the tagline for this season, as seen in HBO’s promotional content, reads “Karma catches up with everyone,” and given Greg’s extensive collection of secrets, this statement seems rather ominous.

It would be prudent for Greg to remain alert as the days progress, particularly since Belinda, played by Natasha Rothwell, is present – a person he has encountered before along with Tanya, during their time in Hawaii.
