As a dedicated Witcher fan with over 1000 hours clocked in the last three games, I couldn’t contain my excitement when The Witcher 4 was announced at The Game Awards. The idea of exploring the Continent as Ciri, a character deeply rooted in the lore, is tantalizing. However, knowing that Geralt won’t be the main protagonist this time around felt like a bitter pill to swallow.
At The Game Awards on Thursday, it was officially confirmed that The Witcher 4 has been developed, making it one of the most anticipated announcements of the evening. CD Projekt RED unveiled an extensive cinematic trailer which revealed that the upcoming game in the series will center around Ciri as the new main character. Although it’s been known for a while now that Geralt won’t be the protagonist for future Witcher titles, it remains unclear if he will still have a significant role to play in this new installment.
It’s been revealed that Doug Cockle, who voices Geralt of Rivia, will once again take on the role for the upcoming installment of The Witcher series. Although he won’t be the main character this time around, his return was hinted earlier in the year and has now been confirmed by CD Projekt RED through a statement to IGN.
The character Geralt is set to feature in our game, however, to preserve the surprise, we’re not revealing his exact role yet. For further details, you’ll need to stay tuned.
Indeed, the distinctive tone of Cockle as Geralt of Rivia was undeniably present in the latest announcement trailer for The Witcher 4. However, what’s significant here is that this officially confirms his role.
At present, we don’t have many details about “The Witcher 4,” except that it is being developed using Unreal Engine 5 and will launch a new trilogy of open-world action RPGs. Keep an eye out for further updates in the upcoming months as the game has recently moved into full production.
