The Witcher 4 Will be Bigger Than The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, CDPR Says

As a seasoned gamer and follower of CD Projekt RED’s epic saga, I can’t help but feel my heart race with anticipation at the news of The Witcher 4 entering full production. With each new project, this studio has consistently managed to outdo itself, crafting immersive, sprawling worlds that keep us hooked for countless hours.

CD Projekt RED consistently creates expansive, intricately detailed open-world games, and true to form, their upcoming title, The Witcher 4, is now in full production. In fact, this new game may surpass the studio’s previous open-world masterpieces in size and ambition.

In a conversation with Eurogamer, Charles Tremblay, CD Projekt RED’s vice president of technology, hinted at their future plans. He explained that the studio’s new technological base, now using Unreal Engine 5 as its primary production tool, will empower them to create a project that surpasses both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 in scale and quality. Naturally, they aim to learn from past experiences to prevent another rocky launch like the one experienced with Cyberpunk 2077.

Tremblay stated, “I won’t claim it’s a breeze, but I believe we’re on to something exciting, and I hope it will impressively demonstrate our technology. The sole point I’ll make is that updating the tech doesn’t alter our ambition. Our future game won’t be diminished or inferior; instead, it will surpass The Witcher 3 in size, quality, and impact, even outdoing Cyberpunk. We refuse to settle for anything less than perfection; we don’t want to retrace our steps.

Despite potential challenges or setbacks, I’m confident we’ll do our utmost to surpass our past accomplishments. Let’s ensure that technology serves as an aid rather than an obstacle in this endeavor.

Compared to the world in The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077’s world was relatively smaller. Yet, both games from CD Projekt RED offered expansive and rich gameplay environments brimming with content that could easily consume players for numerous hours, even without considering their expansion packs. Given the studio’s previous work, it’s not shocking they plan to create something similar for their upcoming project.

As an ardent fan, I can’t hide my excitement for “The Witcher 4,” but I must admit, we’re not likely to unearth many details soon. CDPR may occasionally share tantalizing tidbits, but a comprehensive reveal is unlikely until the game is just about ready to hit the shelves, which could still be a year or so down the line.
