The Witcher IV announced

As a seasoned Witcher fan who’s spent countless hours traversing the dark and gritty world of the Continent, the announcement of The Witcher IV has me absolutely thrilled! CD Projekt RED has always delivered an immersive experience that transports us to a realm where monsters lurk in the shadows and politics are as treacherous as any beast.

CD Projekt RED unveiled plans for a fresh chapter in the world of The Witcher, entitled The Witcher IV. Details regarding the platforms on which it will be released, as well as its launch date, have yet to be disclosed.

Sebastian Kalemba, Game Director, announced the commencement of a fresh “Witcher” series, centering this time around Ciri. He expressed his delight at last being able to share this news; for quite some time, they had envisioned Ciri as the lead character in “The Witcher 4.” The role seemed fitting and they believe she’s earned it. In this game, we aim to delve into what it truly means to be a witcher by journeying with Ciri on her destiny. This trailer offers a glimpse of both the exploration of this theme and the grim, realistic world that is “The Witcher.

At The Game Awards this year, CD PROJEKT RED unveiled the first glimpse of what was earlier called Project Polaris, now known as The Witcher 4. This game, following the success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt—a game often hailed as one of the greatest ever made—signals the start of a fresh Witcher storyline, with Ciri taking center stage as the main character.

In the nearly six-minute long preview, the audience meets Ciri, Geralt of Rivia’s adopted daughter, who embarks on a witcher mission in a secluded village haunted for generations by a formidable monster that demands human sacrifices. Presented as a standalone Witcher tale, this trailer highlights Ciri’s fresh skills and equipment, such as a chain and powerful magical abilities.

The trailer primarily focuses on Ciri’s point of view as a stranger among the village folk. As they bid farewell to one of their own, a young girl destined for a traditional ritual sacrifice, Ciri decides to intervene. Trying to defeat the beast and rescue the girl simultaneously, Ciri encounters resistance not just from the monster, but also from the villagers’ biases and superstitions. This situation forces her to grapple with a harsh truth that a witcher learns: monsters can take various shapes, even among those she seeks to shield.

The trailer is pre-rendered in a custom build of Unreal Engine 5 on an unannounced NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU. Powered by the same tech that The Witcher IV is built on, using assets and models from the game itself, it aims to provide players with a cinematic look at the kind of experience the game is aspiring to provide. The trailer was created through a close collaboration between CD PROJEKT RED and Platige Image, who are no strangers to The Witcher universe, having been responsible for intro cinematics in the previous installments of the series.
