What you need to know

  • Nobody likes hackers in competitive multiplayer games, but Treyarch has built a perk into Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 that’s essentially a legal cheat.
  • The Recon specialization allows a player to see the location of every single opponent on the map for a few seconds after they respawn, even through walls.
  • It’s extremely overpowered, and while some are using it, lots in the community agree something needs to be done about it.

As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the Call of Duty universe over the years, I must admit that Black Ops 6 has been a thrilling addition to the franchise. However, there’s one aspect that’s left me scratching my head – the Recon specialization.

I’m really enjoying Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. In fact, I’d rate it among my top favorites from the entire series, alongside Black Ops 3. However, while Treyarch has mostly hit a home run, there are still some areas that could use improvement.

One aspect that significantly misses the target (according to our gaming buddies at PC Gamer) is the Recon specialization. It activates by default when you have three blue perks on your setup, and quite frankly, it can be considered as a form of sanctioned deception in gameplay.

If you haven’t come across it yet, take a read of its description:

For a brief moment after they reappear, adversaries can be spotted even if hidden behind walls. A blinking edge marker on the HUD signals the presence of foes beyond your current view. Eliminating enemies won’t leave any skull icons denoting death.

Indeed, there seems to be a misunderstanding, but rest assured, you haven’t misread it. Regrettably, in Black Ops 6, Treyarch has incorporated wallhacks as a functional element, which is disheartening. Those who employ this feature should feel a sense of embarrassment.

In contrast to an illegal wall hack, the impact is temporary. Moreover, considering it activates upon respawn, it doesn’t offer an unbalanced edge in Search and Destroy as there are no respawns in that mode. However, it’s undeniably powerful and excessively overpowered.

Additionally, the HUD illuminates brightly, similar to a festive Christmas Tree, when an adversary is in close proximity, even if you can’t visually spot them. From what I’ve observed in killcam replays of players utilizing the Recon class, this feature provides a significant and seemingly unfair advantage. In one instance, while approaching another player unawares, they instantly pinpointed my location as soon as their HUD signaled and swiftly eliminated me with their sniper rifle.

You can see it in action in the clip below, which was posted to Reddit.

Who thought this perk was ever a good idea? from r/blackops6

In the video, a player appeared to have been revived, spotted everyone else’s positions, and then managed to score a headshot kill that seemed impossible, except it could only be achieved with the help of the Recon ability, which allows shots to penetrate walls.

I’m curious to find out who approved the present version of this. It’s clear that some people really enjoy it (even though they might not be everyone’s favorite), but a significant portion of the community strongly dislikes it. Here’s hoping Treyarch takes action to address these concerns.
