The X-Men’s Civil War Begins Early as Two Team Leaders Come to Blows

As a seasoned gamer and longtime fan of the X-Men, I can confidently say that the current state of mutant affairs is as thrilling as ever! The “Raid on Graymalkin” story arc has been a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions, pitting two formidable leaders – Cyclops and Rogue – against each other in a struggle for their teams’ future. But what truly caught my attention was the latest development in the Exceptional X-Men series.

As a devoted X-Men fan, I can’t help but get excited about the upcoming “Raid on Graymalkin” story arc! If you’re like me, who loves to witness epic clashes among your favorite mutants, this four-part crossover between “X-Men” and “Uncanny X-Men” is just what the doctor ordered.

In a recent announcement, Marvel unveiled a sneak peek of issue #3 of “Exceptional X-Men” penned by Eve L. Ewing, featuring artwork from Carmen Carnero, Nolan Woodard, and VC’s Travis Lanham. The storyline introduces three fresh mutants: Axo, Bronze, and Melee, who have been searching for Kitty in her apartment, seeking guidance on their powers and the mutant lifestyle. Despite moving to Chicago with the intention of stepping away from the X-Men and superhero life, it appears that Kitty’s past catches up as Emma Frost emerges, offering to mentor the newcomers. However, there’s a catch – Kitty is not on board with this arrangement.

Emma Frost has grown tired of the X-Men being dispersed worldwide, despite several of her old comrades slipping into familiar patterns. Cyclops already leads an X-Men team, while Rogue manages a group of new mutants in Louisiana. Given her teaching nature, Emma feels she possesses more expertise than Kitty to guide the younger mutants. However, it’s Kitty who eventually understands that Emma has been secretly listening in on her thoughts, resulting in the occasional fainting spells. This realization triggers Kitty, leading to a physical altercation between the seasoned mentor and her former apprentice.

As Axo, Bronze, and Myself (Melee), we gaze upon the fierce battle between Kitty Pryde and Emma Frost, vying for leadership supremacy. Ayo’s bet is on Kitty, believing she’s got the “Eye of the Tiger,” but all Bronze can think about is sneaking into Kitty’s pad before she transforms into a Super Saiyan, Dragon Ball Z-style. This cliffhanger concludes the Exceptional X-Men #3 preview, urging readers to grab the issue on Wednesday and witness who emerges victorious in this epic showdown.

At the moment, it seems that “Extraordinary X-Men” is not involved in the “Raid on Graymalkin” crossover event, despite Marvel promoting this comic as one of their key titles for the X-Men: From the Ashes reboot. However, just because they’re not directly part of the crossover doesn’t mean there won’t be consequences for “Extraordinary X-Men”. It looks like significant changes could occur within Marvel’s mutant universe, as Kitty Pryde and Emma Frost will eventually have to make a decision about their allegiances once the dust settles from the X-Men event.

The preview of Exceptional X-Men #3 is below. The issue goes on sale Wednesday, November 20th.
