Sega recently released a combat trailer for their upcoming ninja game, SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance, showcasing its distinctive ninja techniques in the 2D action platformer genre. Developed by Sega and Lizardcube, this project is scheduled to debut on August 29 across Xbox, Nintendo, PlayStation consoles, and PC via Steam.
In the trailer, we catch a glimpse of Joe Musashi, leader of the Oboro Clan and skilled Ninjutsu master, making his return amidst fierce conflict with ENE Corp., a powerful military group. A brief demonstration is given, hinting at the various techniques players can use in the upcoming 2D action platformer, set for release towards the end of this year.
Utilizing Musashi’s Ningi abilities is crucial in platforming action. These skills include proficiency in using Ninja Claws for scaling walls and the Ninja Hook to traverse wide gaps. The Ninja Glider gives a temporary flight, allowing you to swoop down on an adversary before executing a Shinobi finisher.
In this game, the Musashi’s Ninpo fighting style allows you to unleash fierce Shuriken assaults, as well as tap into energy from Fire, Water, and the Great Serpent. If you’re still craving excitement, you can amplify your power in a manner reminiscent of Dragon Ball Z and use Ninjutsu moves against the game’s wicked bosses. These include a lightning-fast Raijin attack and the double-dragon Karyu attack.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance showcases a traditional 2D hand-drawn art style, offering action-packed platformer gameplay, rejuvenating Sega’s beloved franchise from its past. The return of Shinobi was initially unveiled at The Game Awards in the year 2023, and since then, bits and pieces about the upcoming game have been gradually disclosed as the August release date approaches.
As an analyst, I’m excited to share that I was part of a team that collaborated with Lizardcube and the masterminds behind Streets of Rage 4 for our revival project, codenamed SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance. This digital-only title will grace all console platforms as well as PC via Steam. In line with our commitment to authenticity, we’ve ensured that both Japanese and English voiceovers will be available in the game.
You can now reserve your spot for the SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance, offering a 10% preorder discount! This thrilling game will make its debut on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 on August 29.
