“There Will be a Future” for the Tony Hawk Franchise, Tony Hawk Says

As a gamer who’s been riding virtual skateboards since the days of cassette tapes and dial-up internet, the news about Tony Hawk‘s Pro Skater 3 and 4 has been as thrilling as landing a perfect 900 on a halfpipe. After what felt like an endless session of manual grinds in limbo, it seems we might finally get a taste of that nostalgic adrenaline rush again.

Initially, rumors arose about the cancellation of plans for a unified remake of both Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4. This led many to worry that the popular skateboarding series was once more put on hold by Activision. However, it seems the situation might not be as grim as initially thought.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the first release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Tony Hawk himself shared a celebratory Instagram post. In his post’s caption, he hinted at more to come for the series by saying, “I shouldn’t be giving any hints about the future, but there will indeed be one.

I’ve got to say, it’s not the first time Hawk has hinted at what’s next for the skateboarding series lately. Just this past month, he mentioned he was “chatting with Activision once again” and they were “cooking up something” that “the community will surely adore”. You can find out more about it through here.

According to previous accounts, a reboot of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4 was being worked on at Vicarious Visions, the same team behind 2020’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2. However, this project was put on hold following the studio’s merger with Blizzard Entertainment.
