These Awful PS5, PS4 Shovelware Games Are Getting More and More Shameless

The PS Store has a pretty serious problem with shovelware — but you probably knew that already.

While it may require venturing past the initial offerings on Sony’s digital marketplace, a brief exploration of the current deals won’t leave you waiting long before encountering some questionable practices by developers aiming for a swift profit.

The decorative elements on these title pages frequently feature poorly-generated AI art or irrelevant screenshots, which don’t reflect the true nature of the product. More often than not, the games themselves consist of a haphazard mix of pre-made components.

On a regular basis, new instances arise where games are taken off the PlayStation Store by Sony, typically due to copyright issues involving either names or resources. However, this trend persists.

A specific game titled Hentai Supermarket Simulator has been garnering attention as of late due to its recent deletion, a move clearly justified by its content.

Remarkably, Voumik Nihar, the developer, chose to utilize the character models directly from Zenless Zone Zero without any alterations and use them as NPCs in their game. Consequently, when news broke about this apparent misuse of assets, Hentai Supermarket Simulator was swiftly removed from the online marketplace.

Zenless Zone Zero studio HoYoverse provides an accommodating policy, enabling users to download and adapt their character models, albeit exclusively for non-commercial purposes such as fan art or animations. However, Hentai Supermarket Simulator is not open-source software meant for personal use; it’s a paid product available on the PlayStation Store.

I must admit, things seem to be taking a turn for the worst. As Automaton so rightly mentioned, Hentai Supermarket Simulator didn’t just stop at creating its own content; it also incorporated artwork from established hentai series, carelessly slapping them onto in-game elements.

As a gamer, I can’t help but ponder over the situation where questionable games like these manage to find their way onto PlayStation Store in the first place, even though it’s great that they’re eventually being flagged and removed.

From our experience, it takes only a brief playthrough of Hentai Supermarket Simulator to recognize the abundance of copyrighted content within it. Sony should strive to improve in this area, as failing to do so could potentially lead them into legal trouble by permitting such questionable products on their platform for sale.

How do you feel about the abundance of low-quality games on the PlayStation Store, something that some might find frustrating enough to express with a face palm?
