This crazy throwback to old-school ninja action games just got even crazier with its latest trailer revealing a 2nd playable character

I’ve just witnessed the unveiling of a thrilling new gameplay trailer for Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, an exciting upcoming 2D side-scroller that harks back to Koei Tecmo’s iconic ’80s arcade and NES games. As an observer, I can’t wait to dive into the action!

The freshly released trailer highlights the introduction of a second playable character, innovative gameplay elements, and excessive fight scenes involving swarms of ruthless adversaries.

The character under discussion is Kumori, a female ninja belonging to the Black Spider Clan – an adversarial group that confronts both the Hayabusa Clan and the primary character, Kenji Mozu, in the game.

In contrast to myself, who often engages adversaries from afar using my kunai knives and dark sorcery, Kenji typically chooses a more direct approach, wielding his sword and ninja skills in close combat with enemies.

Kenji and Kumori have an intense animosity towards each other due to their clans’ longstanding enmity. Yet, after a catastrophic battle against demons that nearly claimed their lives, Kumori resorted to using a prohibited power, fusing her spirit with Kenji’s, to stay alive.

Currently united, Kenji and Kumori need to momentarily set aside their competition and employ their recently acquired ‘Ninja Combined’ abilities to annihilate the demonic forces that threaten to obliterate their respective clans.

In Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, Ninja Fusion is a key feature that lets you freely switch between controlling characters Kenji and Kumori. Mastering when to use Ninja Fusion and leveraging each character’s special skills will be essential for overcoming challenges, including the game’s massive, intimidating, and incredibly tough boss battles.

Ninja Gaiden’s epic comeback tour continues to impress

Upon witnessing the unveiling of Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound at the 2024 Game Awards, I was left speechless by the breathtakingly beautiful pixel-art movements it showcased and the mind-boggling intensity of its displayed combat sequences.

After seeing the second preview, my excitement for this game has significantly increased to the extent that I have added it to my wishlist for the most eagerly awaited Xbox games/PC games of 2025. Remarkably, I’ve never experienced a Ninja Gaiden game before expressing this statement.

Kenji and Kumori appear thrilling and enjoyable to experience, their fight sequences seem incredibly swift and intense, and the recently unveiled Ninja Fusion feature offers a plethora of opportunities to craft astonishing combination moves.

2025 will witness a powerful resurgence of Koei Tecmo’s Ninja Gaiden series as it unleashes Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, silently introduces the enhanced version, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, onto Xbox Game Pass, and discloses the launch of the first mainline Ninja Gaiden game since 2012’s Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge, which goes by the name Ninja Gaiden 4.

Among the three upcoming games, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is the one I’m most eagerly anticipating due to its retro-inspired visuals. I can hardly contain my excitement as I eagerly await its release next summer on platforms such as Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
