At this week’s CES, my long-awaited gadget made its debut. Amidst numerous announcements over the past two days, you might think my enthusiasm stems from a laptop featuring a rollable screen, a groundbreaking gaming handheld powered by SteamOS, or the inaugural Copilot+ All-in-One PC. However, it’s actually a trackpad that I intend to buy as soon as it becomes available, which was displayed at CES.
Hyper unveiled an upgraded standalone trackpad, resembling a detached laptop touchpad, which could be a promising new piece for my ergonomic workspace. This device isn’t just a Windows-compatible alternative to the Magic Trackpad; it could also serve as an upcoming accessory on my ergonomically designed desk.
The HyperSpace Trackpad Pro is a high-end accessory without apologies, priced at $129.99. Some might argue that it’s quite expensive considering it’s essentially a mouse for laptops. However, Hyper claims the product was created to cater to the void in the market for premium haptic trackpad solutions on Windows systems.
The haptic trackpad measures approximately 6.2 inches in width and 3.5 inches in height, which makes it quite substantial. From any angle, it appears to be a rather sizable device. Compared to most laptop trackpads you’ve encountered, this one is likely significantly larger. However, there are some exceptionally large trackpads on modern PCs.
The HyperSpace Trackpad Pro, being a haptic trackpad, offers consistent feedback regardless of where it’s pressed. There won’t be any areas that require extra pressure or are unresponsive (dead zones). Moreover, this haptic trackpad, like the HyperSpace Trackpad Pro, is customizable. You can fine-tune its click force and pressure sensitivity according to your preference. Since it doesn’t physically move when pressed, you might need to make some adjustments to achieve the desired sensation.
As I observe, the HyperSpace Trackpad Pro guarantees “instantaneous accuracy” owing to its swift 240Hz reporting speed in wireless mode. Furthermore, this premium trackpad comes equipped with palm rejection technology, an essential feature that enhances user experience significantly.
With your fingers moving effortlessly across the screen, you can customize unique gestures for the trackpad that work differently in various applications. These personalized gestures can be set individually for each app, offering a tailored user experience. Additionally, you can discover and exchange shortcut ideas for the HyperSpace Trackpad Pro within the Hyper community. While it’s uncertain how many users will share custom trackpad shortcuts online, the concept is undeniably innovative. I’m certain that people will come up with creative ways to optimize their use of a trackpad with so many customization options available.
The HyperSpace Trackpad Pro also allows you to affix wrist supports on either side, which are level with the trackpad. This design mimics the motion of placing your wrist on a laptop’s body and swiveling towards the trackpad, offering a similar user experience.
The HyperSpace Trackpad Pro is projected to arrive by the second quarter of 2025. Although Hyper has posted information about the HyperSpace Trackpad Pro on their website, they currently indicate that the product is out of stock.
