"This Is the GOAT Harry Potter Game" Say Fans, And It's Not Hogwarts Legacy

As a gamer who grew up enchanted by the magical world of Harry Potter, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia when reflecting upon the release of Hogwarts Legacy in 2023. While it undeniably holds a special place among today’s gamers and has broken numerous sales records, there remains one game that still reigns supreme in my heart: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

2023 saw the arrival of “Hogwarts Legacy”, marking an end to a long gap in console-based Harry Potter games. As of now, it stands as the highest-grossing Harry Potter game, sharing this title with the top-selling game of 2023 and some of the all-time best sellers. Some enthusiasts even deem it the finest Harry Potter game, although others argue otherwise. Predictably, some fans lean towards the movie tie-in games from the past, possibly due to sentimental reasons.

Among Harry Potter fans on the official Reddit page, there’s widespread agreement that a specific movie tie-in game stands out as the best Harry Potter game ever made. This week, one of the most popular posts on the page celebrates the game “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.” With over 9,300 upvotes and 800 comments expressing similar sentiments, it’s clear that this isn’t just a solitary opinion.

I used to spend countless hours playing this game as a kid, mastering it almost like a speedrunner. Do you remember any other kids who loved this game just as much? While Hogwarts Legacy is fun, it doesn’t compare to the all-time great Potter game for me. Even though Hogwarts Legacy was made later, it feels like it was this game I’ve been talking about. To me, Chamber of Secrets (COS) is the superior game, despite its less impressive graphics. The gameplay, however, was simply fantastic. I can’t help but wish I could still play it today.

Totally awesome! Navigating through various sections of the castle became thrilling upon mastering new spells, just like old-school mini-games where collecting numerous tiny beans was the goal.

If you haven’t heard about it before, “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” was initially launched back in 2002 across several platforms including PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo GameCube, and PC. This game shares its name with the movie that came out at the same time. It received a Metacritic score of 77 and was a significant commercial hit, selling approximately nine million copies within a year, earning around $500 million in revenue.

For quite some time now, numerous fans have eagerly hoped for a re-release of the original movie tie-in games, but it appears that this wish may not come true given the complexities of licensing agreements. However, with the extraordinary success of Hogwarts Legacy, we can certainly expect more Harry Potter video games to be in development.
