As someone who’s spent countless hours gaming on my Legion Go controller, I can definitely empathize with your predicament. The ropes dangling from those straps were always tickling my wrists like an overly affectionate cat, and trying to shove them inside the silicon case was as futile as trying to stuff a genie back into its bottle!

Since I laid eyes on the Lenovo Legion Go for the first time, it was apparent that this gaming handheld bore a closer resemblance to the Nintendo Switch than Steam Deck and ROG Ally. Similar to Nintendo’s hybrid console, the Legion Go features an integrated kickstand and detachable controllers. However, in contrast to Nintendo’s system, the Legion Go does not include wrist straps, and at its initial release, there were no accessories available to combine the two separated controllers into a single gamepad.

JSAUX Handle Strap Kit for Legion Go aims to add these conveniences with a three-part accessory set which includes a silicone protective cover, handle straps, and a controller base. I’ve been playing my Legion Go for a few days with these accessories in place. Here’s what I discovered.

Without a doubt, JSAUX has been quite familiar with crafting accessories for portable gaming devices. They’ve designed numerous handy docking stations, gaming stands, unique cables, and other useful items. That’s why I found myself intrigued to examine their latest accessory package.

The JSAUX Handle Strap Kit for Legion Go is offered in two variations: one that consists of three items with an initial price of $25.99, or another upcoming version containing only two items priced at $19.99. The two-item set will be released shortly and includes two handle straps and the controller base. At this moment, the three-item set is readily available and provides a silicone protective cover in addition to the other components.

You can purchase the JSAUX Handle Strap Kit for Legion Go either at Amazon or the JSAUX website.

In summary, all components within this set are straightforward to install and remove. The handle straps, which are accessories, feature magnets inside black plastic material. To install, I just slide them onto the Legion Go controller connections until I hear a click. When the two halves are close enough, they magnetically connect, creating a strong bond that doesn’t wobble or move around. Whenever I need to reattach the controller to the handheld gaming device, I can easily separate the two halves and detach the accessory.

One thing I find appealing is how similar the shade of the handle strap plastic is to the color of Legion Go controllers. While it’s not an exact match, it’s close enough that they won’t appear incongruous in appearance.

The handle straps are referred to by the string-like material that emerges from their lower edges. Similar to the Nintendo Joy-Con, the attached clip enables me to adjust the straps around my wrists to prevent them slipping out while I’m playing games and potentially damaging the expensive controllers. They’re comfortable enough for prolonged use. Although these straps aren’t crucial on this handheld device since Legion Go controllers don’t have motion control, it’s still a smart precaution if needed. If nothing else, they could be beneficial for children who may not be as careful when playing games.

Simultaneously, the flexible silicone casing effortlessly glides over the magnetically fastened controller pieces without clinging too strongly. This allows for easy on and off removal when needed. However, it won’t fall off by itself. There are openings for the back buttons, mouse wheel, triggers, and even the bumper areas, which are slightly covered with a thin strip of silicone to enhance its structure.

With this protective cover on, I can effortlessly reach all the buttons and triggers on the gamepad. Furthermore, it provides a touch of extra grip, making it more comfortable to hold during gaming sessions. It doesn’t significantly increase the controller’s overall weight, either. I also observed that these add-ons didn’t interfere with my controller’s functionality in any way, allowing me to play games as usual.

Ultimately, the controller stand resembles the one included with the Legion Go and even securely keeps the controller in place using magnets. Interestingly, its construction allows for accommodating the right controller, complete with its handle strap. It operates similarly to the official FPS Mode base, making it feel like I was using the original accessory itself.

JSAUX Handle Strap Kit for Legion Go: What I don’t like

One inconvenient thing about this kit is that the actual wrist strap rope cannot easily be detached from the plastic. Nintendo Switch includes these ropes separately, and you tie them into the attachment.

Nevertheless, these components are securely fastened within the housing, making it difficult to remove them without using a screwdriver on the accessory or cutting them loose. Removing them seems like excessive effort considering the minor inconvenience they cause. I attempted pushing these ropes into the silicone case, but their length causes the plastic adjustment piece to protrude wherever it rests, making it impractical.

Originally, these straps were designed to extend from the bottom of the silicone case in a manner that frequently caused a tickle on my wrists. When the two controller halves are joined together, it’s not typically meant for wearing the straps. However, wearing them around my wrists so close together eliminated the tickling sensation but restricted my movement, which wasn’t ideal.

While fitted into the controller base, the strap extends from the right controller’s bottom as well. It wasn’t overly problematic because it moved out of the way easily, not interfering with my actions. However, I found myself worrying about potential interference throughout the experience, so I would occasionally push it aside during gaming moments.

Although it’s not a vast market, you can find a handful of Legion Go controller add-ons on Amazon, and probably elsewhere too. I haven’t used it personally, but there’s an option called the Generic Legion Go Joycon Controller Connector priced at $29.99 on Amazon. This connector allows you to join the two halves of your Legion Go gamepad into a single piece made of plastic, resulting in a more conventional controller shape.

JSAUX Handle Strap Kit for Legion Go: Should you buy it?

✅ You should buy this if…

  • You want to unite the two Legion Go controller halves into one gamepad: Thanks to the magnetic design of the handle straps and the silicon cover, this kit helps the two detached controllers feel like one entity.
  • You need something that secures the controllers to your hands: While it’s not as common to fling your Legion Go controllers around as you do Nintendo Switch Joy-Con, having the strap ensures that you don’t accidentally drop and damage these expensive controllers.

❌ You should not buy this if…

  • You’d prefer an accessory that makes it easier to remove the straps: This Legion Go accessory would be more convenient if it was easier to remove the ropes from the plastic accessory. As it is, they can sometimes get in the way.
  • You don’t detach your controllers from your Legion Go: If you prefer to play in handheld mode with your controllers attached to the Legion Go, then there’s obviously no need to purchase this accessory set.

If you enjoy playing PC games on Legion Go using separate controllers, you might benefit from the JSAUX Handle Strap Kit. This kit features magnetic plastic attachments that join the two halves into a more conventional controller shape. Simultaneously, the silicone case offers extra grip through its soft rubber material for a comfortable gaming experience.

1. Installing and uninstalling each of the three distinct components is straightforward. However, the ropes attached to the plastic handle strap add-ons can be tricky to detach if you choose not to keep them. They sometimes tangle when they extend from the controller, which could be improved with a different design. Nonetheless, I managed to have enjoyable gaming sessions with these accessories and would suggest them for anyone considering them.
