What you need to know
- Honor has announced a new Windows laptop which features the world’s first detachable webcam.
- The slim uniform bezels are too small to house a webcam, so Honor came up with a design that allows the camera to sit above the display with magnets.
- The camera can be removed and stored safely inside the laptop via dedicated space on the side of the laptop.
As a tech enthusiast with years of experience under my belt, I must say, Honor has outdone themselves this time with the MagicBook Art 14! The detachable webcam is a game-changer, offering both practicality and innovative design that caters to our modern needs.
At IFA 2024, Honor unveiled a stunning new Windows laptop, boasting a sleek design with minimal bezels around its high-resolution 120Hz touchscreen display, a generously sized haptic trackpad, and an innovative webcam that can be removed from the top of the laptop cover
As a tech-savvy individual, I’m particularly thrilled about this device’s design. The top and side bezels are remarkably slim, a mere 2.2mm thick. Unfortunately, due to its slenderness, a conventional webcam couldn’t be integrated into the top bezel. However, Honor has ingeniously overcome this challenge by employing a magnetic attachment system for the webcam, positioning it just above the bezel instead. This creative solution not only maintains the sleek look but also ensures a high-quality video call experience
When not in use, the webcam is kept securely stored within the laptop. You can easily pull it out whenever you need to utilize it. A small opening on the top of the laptop lid shows where the webcam should be inserted, and when connected, Honor’s proprietary software will appear to confirm a successful attachment
The port is also reversible, allowing you to switch the camera’s direction if needed! During my testing of the laptop, I found the magnets to provide a pleasing and reliable hold. However, it’s important to note that you should store the webcam safely when not in use, as it might detach in a bag
Additionally, this design offers an added advantage for privacy. Since the webcam can be removed, the Honor MagicBook Art 14 functions without a camera when detached. If you’re someone who typically uses tape or a privacy cover for your laptop’s camera, you won’t need to do so with the Honor MagicBook Art 14 due to its detachable webcam feature
In other models, the laptop boasts a spacious haptic touchpad – the largest seen on a 14-inch laptop at present. It also offers a top-notch keyboard, integrated fingerprint scanner, two USB-A ports, one HDMI 2.1 port, a Thunderbolt 4 port, and a conventional 3.5mm audio jack
This device boasts an impressive display, measuring 14.6 inches and boasting a resolution of 3820×2080 on an OLED panel. Additionally, it offers a high PWM dimming frequency of 4,320Hz to minimize discomfort for those sensitive to such effects. It also includes an e-book mode that converts the screen to greyscale and TUV Rhineland eye protection for added comfort during extended use
Inside the laptop lies a first-generation Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor, accompanied by either 16GB or 32GB of memory. It boasts up to 1TB of storage capacity. Additionally, Honor claims that its 60Wh battery offers all-day power for tasks like web browsing, email management, and Microsoft Office work, particularly in productivity scenarios
As a tech-savvy individual, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve gotten my hands on the Honor MagicBook Art 14. Keep an eye on Windows Central in the following days for a comprehensive review of this device!
