Absolutely, at long last, here comes a fresh open-world RPG from Obsidian! I won’t delve into whether it resembles Skyrim or The Outer Worlds – that’s a topic for the review. As for the absence of a physical edition, we can discuss that another day. Yes, Avowed has experienced some shader compilation crashes and HDR issues, but let’s set those aside for now. Instead, let’s zero in on something incredibly beneficial for players like myself. More accessibility options are always welcomed, and Obsidian has certainly delivered. If you’re someone who enjoys first-person perspective games but experiences a bit of motion sickness, rest assured, Avowed has made things more comfortable for us.
Camera shake, Head Bobbing, and HUD customization options in Avowed
In the accessibility menu of the game “Avowed“, the customizable camera options are truly a godsend. You’re not just able to modify the intensity of the overall camera shake for the entire world, but also the camera sway. If you find the constant side-to-side movement during walking or running tiresome, you can adjust it – or simply deactivate it altogether. Just keep an eye out for the Head Bobbing settings. Here’s hoping that Obsidian continues to incorporate this feature in their future games as well.
New Vegas in any other way than the first-person perspective. Even when those games introduced improved third-person modes, they still felt a bit out of sync. I suppose it’s because I’ve grown so accustomed to Bethesda and some Obsidian games being first-person that I find it difficult to play them differently.
Speaking of settings, some players have expressed that the Head-Up Display (HUD) seems quite busy. But fret not! You’ve got several customization options at your disposal. You can deactivate certain markers, suppress damage numbers, or even conceal the entire HUD if you prefer a less cluttered screen. Additionally, there’s an adjustable Hit Flash Mode, allowing you to tailor it according to your comfort level.
As a dedicated gamer, I must admit that some game developers could definitely learn a thing or two from Obsidian about accessibility options. For instance, Atlus, if you’re reading this, it would be greatly appreciated if you could provide an option to turn off the overly distracting speech bubble animation in Metaphor ReFantazio. It’s a small request, but it would make the gaming experience more enjoyable for many players like myself.
