As a dedicated gamer, can you envision the soap operas like EastEnders or Dynasty transformed into an anime-style visual novel? Honestly, it’s hard for me to wrap my mind around that – but that seems to be the essence of Re:Burn The Bonfire of Taiwan.
Drawing inspiration from a legendary Taiwanese drama that graced our screens back in the early 2000s, I’ve dived headfirst into this officially approved remake. Instead of sticking to the original narrative, we’re cranking up the excitement with an over-the-top anime spin, breathing fresh life into both the story and its characters!
You can check out a trailer below for a taste of what to expect:
The initial soap opera showcases a longstanding feud between two powerful families, characterized by professional disagreements and deep-seated personal animosities. The formal press statement elaborates further:

The tale unfolds hidden truths, delves into topics like revenge, love, and deceit, featuring characters that represent both virtue and wickedness. Your decisions as a player and the levels of affection between characters determine whether you reach conclusions from the original series or exclusive endings unique to the game. Additionally, notable scenes from the live-action version can be unlocked as you progress through the game’s captivating chapters.
Below, you’ll find the initial episode of the original TV series. Please note that it doesn’t have subtitles, so be prepared for that while watching.
It’s clear that the fresh interpretation will be entirely translated into English, ensuring everyone can follow along with the storyline.
In every chapter, you have the freedom to switch among various character viewpoints and explore the city layout. Engage with ‘boss’ characters through either physical fights or verbal debates, employ evidence such as DNA tests and divorce papers to support your position, take advantage of other characters’ distinctive abilities, and utilize property deeds, among other tools, as the struggle between rival families intensifies!
In the complete rollout, it’s crucial to pay attention to your romantic involvements, as you’ll need to handle them tactfully to achieve the desired results.
Don’t fret over errors, as the ‘chapter select’ feature lets you rewind and choose another route, enabling you to discover multiple endings within the game.
Interestingly enough, we had a quick go at this game during the Taipei Game Show earlier this year. The vibrant, eye-catching character designs lured us in, but since the entire demonstration was in Mandarin, we couldn’t progress much.
Frankly speaking, we hadn’t known it was modeled after a well-known daytime drama, but now that we do, it’s piqued our curiosity even further – particularly since it offers unveilable real-life sequences.
