As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that Days Gone is a must-play for any survival-horror enthusiast. Having traversed countless open worlds and battled hordes of undead in various titles, Days Gone stands out as one of the most immersive and exhilarating experiences I’ve had in recent years.
Survival-horror is a broad genre, with some darker, more condensed titles and games that take things open world. Days Gone, the 2019 title from PlayStation’s Bend Studio, falls into the latter category, giving players an open wilderness to explore and hordes of infected to fight. Days Gone is also available on PC, and right now, you can grab Days Gone for just $10 at CDKeys (Steam) in a special Friday the 13th sale.
Days Gone offers an unrelenting world and open freedom
2019 saw me unveiling Days Gone on PlayStation 4, a project that had been in the works for years at Bend Studio. The game’s open world is perilous at every step, with hordes of Freakers, infected wildlife, and hostile biker gangs constantly posing threats to my character, Deacon St. John. Despite the dangers, he continues his restless journey, refusing to settle down and pushing ahead along the open road.
At its initial release, Days Gone didn’t garner exceptional praise from numerous critics due to several technical flaws and bugs that marred the overall gameplay.
Despite initial flaws, the studio behind the game continually made improvements and updates, resulting in an exceptionally refined gaming experience today. This is particularly noticeable on PC platforms, as users can utilize advanced features such as ultra-wide screens.
2020 marked the start of a trend where several games from PlayStation Studios became available on Windows PC, with Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn being one of the initial titles launched that year. Not long after, Days Gone followed suit, making it the second major PlayStation game to be playable on PC, as its port was released in 2021.
It appears that Bend Studio is focusing on a new project instead of a follow-up to Days Gone at the moment. However, with its price reduced to only $10 as part of a Friday the 13th sale, this presents an ideal opportunity to delve into the narrative of Deacon St. John and his journey through the post-apocalyptic world he inhabits.
