Activision and Iron Galaxy are nearly ready to launch their remake titled “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4“, which is just around the corner. A continuation of “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2“, this new release aims to replicate the widely acclaimed third and fourth installments of the famous skateboarding video game series. However, it’s worth noting that some alterations are being implemented in the content of “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4“, particularly the omission of its original Career Mode. This decision has sparked a drop in enthusiasm among many fans anticipating the upcoming game.
In simpler terms, for those not familiar, the Career Mode in THPS 4 lets players skate freely on each level without time constraints. Goals are given by NPCs placed randomly within a level. This setup led to some unusual objectives like playing tennis with a skateboard or racing grocery carts down Alcatraz’s slopes. Now, Iron Galaxy is introducing a two-minute goal system in THPS 3 and 4, causing worry among fans. However, Tony Hawk himself has hinted that these unconventional goals are indeed included in the game, as suggested by recent posts on official Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater social media platforms.
The response from fans has been predominantly negative. While it appears that many objectives from THPS 4 will be incorporated into THPS 3+4, some of the most memorable moments from that game are being left out. In a recent Reddit post, fans have voiced their disapproval of the upcoming game for various reasons, such as insufficient marketing efforts and Iron Galaxy apparently facing constraints in terms of time and finances.
One Reddit user comments that while additional goals have been added in new game + (like COMBO letters, pink elephants in college, and so forth), they’re still within the two-minute format. The user also mentions that most goals from THPS 4 are yet to be included, leading them to express dissatisfaction with the game’s marketing, stating it has been misleading.
A different Reddit user mentioned that in THPS 3 NG+, the objectives mainly involve scoring, combos, and collecting items, with an additional unique mission-style goal. If this pattern continues in THPS 4, it means there would only be one mission-style objective per level, which may not meet the expectations of those eagerly anticipating THPS 4, as they are deeply disappointed by this potential outcome.
Another Reddit user expressed skepticism, saying, ‘I find it hard to believe their claims of unifying the experience.’ I suspect what they’re struggling to admit is that maintaining the existing framework would have required more resources in terms of budget and time than this project has been given.
The remastered versions of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4 are set to release on July 11th for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 (if it exists), and PC. Pre-ordering now grants early access to the Foundry Demo, where players can enjoy skating as Tony Hawk and Rayssa Leal at the Foundry and College levels.
