Amazon revealed on Thursday that Zubin Varla from ‘Andor’, Andrew Richardson known for ‘Ponies’, and Adam Young, star of ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ have joined the cast for Season 3 of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’. However, their specific roles in the series are yet to be disclosed. Filming for the new season has commenced recently in the U.K., and while we have some intriguing hints about the storyline, the characters these actors will portray remain a mystery. Unlike other adaptations, this show explores the history of J.R.R. Tolkien’s novels, using references directly from the main books rather than supplementary works like ‘The Silmarillion’, maintaining an air of anticipation and making it challenging to predict who these talented actors might be embodying.
In Season 1 of Andor, Varla made an appearance in four episodes as the character Xanwan. With the acclaimed finale of that series, Varla has become a valuable addition to this upcoming fantasy production. Some fans might find his role as a sailor in the The Witcher franchise more intriguing. As for Richardson, although he’s relatively new to the genre, Amazon has announced that he will be a regular cast member in this season. Both Varla and Young will have recurring roles in the series.
In Season 3 of “The Rings of Power,” Middle-earth braces for war, making it an exhilarating period. This series portrays significant happenings from the Second Age as detailed in Tolkien’s chronicles, “The Silmarillion.” While these events unfolded over millennia in the original tales, they are compacted here for dramatic impact. However, showrunners have hinted that Season 3 will start with a time-jump. This could make the narrative more realistic, but it might also signal a tranquil pause before the impending storm.
Now that Sauron has revealed himself, it’s an opportune moment to introduce fresh characters into the mix. This includes considering the Harfoots, who may not be ready for battle anytime soon. In Middle-earth at this point, the human civilization with the most influence is the island nation of Númenor. It would be intriguing to delve deeper into that region and gain fresh insights.
It’s intriguing to consider whether the success of The Rings of Power might be boosted at all by the concurrent production within the Lord of the Rings universe. Last year witnessed the debut of War of the Rohirrim, and anticipation is mounting for a fresh live-action production, The Hunt for Gollum. Both of these projects are being developed by the same studios that brought us Peter Jackson’s movie series, along with many of the same creative talents. Although they are not linked to The Rings of Power, it’s possible that the growing enthusiasm for Tolkien’s tales could make them complementary for some enthusiasts.
I’m thrilled to share that the third season of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is currently being filmed, but a release date hasn’t been announced as of now. If you haven’t already, you can catch up on the first two seasons streaming right now on Prime Video.
