With the imminent start of filming for “Spider-Man: Brand New Era” and its confirmed place on the Marvel cinematic schedule, we’ve been receiving regular updates about Tom Holland’s fourth standalone appearance as Peter Parker. The most recent gossip suggests that three particular villains have been chosen for “Brand New Era”. While I’d be thrilled to see this specific trio causing mischief, there’s one in particular I hope turns out to be true, as it’s someone we’ve previously encountered in the Marvel Universe.
This rumor originated from a now-deleted Instagram post from user Chris Higashi (via ComicBookMovie), who claimed that Scorpion, Boomerang and Tombstone were revealed as the Spider-Man: Brand New Day villains at the Disney Blockbuster Consumer Products presentation in Las Vegas. Now scooper MyTimeToShineHello (again, via ComicBookMovie) is saying that Michael Mando is on deck to reprise Mac Gargan, who will become Scorpion. Mando, best known for playing Nacho Varga in Better Call Saul, first appeared as Gargan in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
It’s worth mentioning that for now, this should be treated with caution, but I truly hope that Michael Mando will reappear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. His character, Gargan, was initially portrayed as a criminal attempting to purchase from Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes, but Spiderman, played by Tom Holland, interrupted the transaction. As a result of this interruption, Gargan sustained some severe facial injuries and was sent to prison. During his incarceration, he crossed paths with Toomes and inquired about rumors suggesting that Toomes knew Spider-Man’s secret identity.

As a devoted fan, eagerly anticipating “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” I can’t help but share my hopes for the character of Flash Thompson. As the actor who played him, his words have stirred up a mix of feelings within me.
Here’s to hoping that Flash Thompson will get the chance to truly embrace his inner hero and step out of the shadow of Spider-Man, proving himself worthy of the responsibility that comes with great power. May he find his own unique path towards heroism, all while maintaining the heart and soul of a loyal friend.
This upcoming summer will be dominated by Tom Holland, and it’s high time we brainstormed some fun, Spiderman-inspired versions of Barbenheimer!
In a turn of events, Toomes falsely claimed ignorance about the identity hidden behind the mask, and the hint at vengeance by Gargan and his associates in the end credits of “Spider-Man: Homecoming” was not further developed. Instead, subsequent films like “Spider-Man: Far From Home” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” shifted focus from urban crimes to showcasing villains such as Mysterio and characters from the Spider-Man movies starring Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. However, an alternate version of Gargan’s character appeared in the animated series “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man“, which is available for streaming on Disney+.
Given that Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin is not available for a Spider-Man movie, Tombstone could serve as an alternative crime boss antagonist. Boomerang seems fitting as one of his henchmen. On the other hand, Scorpion, a well-known adversary from Spider-Man’s rogues gallery, has yet to be fully portrayed on the big screen. I’d love to see Michael Mando don the green armor and wield that cybernetic tail, menacingly targeting the Web-slinger.
As details about the upcoming film “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” emerge, there’s speculation that Mando might have joined the cast. We’ll find out more in the coming weeks. The film, slated to release on July 31, 2026, currently has Tom Holland, Sadie Sink (who could be portraying Peter Parker’s daughter from another dimension), and Liza Colón-Zayas as its co-stars.
