Throne and Liberty Surpasses 3 Million Players in its First Week

As a seasoned MMORPG player with countless hours spent within the mystical realms of Azeroth and Eorzea, I must say that the arrival of Amazon Games and NCSoft’s Throne and Liberty has caught my attention, much like a level 60 Paladin charging into battle. The first week numbers are impressive indeed, with over 3 million players and 24 million hours of gameplay under their belts, not to mention the staggering Twitch viewership of more than 11 million hours.

In the realm of Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPG), giants like World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14 have historically held dominant positions. Therefore, when a new contender emerges in this competitive landscape, it’s always intriguing, and it appears that the latest arrival has made a promising debut.

In the past few days, Amazon Games and NCSoft’s multiplayer online role-playing game “Throne and Liberty” was released for PC and consoles. Surprisingly, it has managed to amass a substantial player base right off the bat. In its first week alone, the game attracted over 3 million players across all platforms who collectively spent more than 24 million hours playing it. Additionally, the game has been streamed on Twitch for over 11 million hours in total since its launch.

Christoph Hartmann, Vice President of Amazon Games, expressed his delight about collaborating with NCSoft to make Throne and Liberty accessible globally, stating that it’s a massive joint effort. He added that the team is overjoyed to see players engaging with the game. Furthermore, Hartmann emphasized that this is just the beginning, as they have several updates lined up, including their first castle siege event, which will be released shortly.

Despite not having specific figures for individual platforms, SteamDB reports that Throne and Liberty peaked with more than 336,000 simultaneous players on Steam during the weekend.

In our assessment of “Throne and Liberty”, we rated it 6 out of 10. We stated that while this game could potentially become a great MMORPG in the future, right now it lacks unique or captivating concepts to entice players away from well-established leaders within the genre.
