Debuts in cinemas today, boasting a favorable critical response and high anticipation, with many claiming it ranks among the top Marvel Cinematic Universe productions in years. However, early Thursday previews for its Phase Five conclusion hint at potential challenges at the box office, as it struggles to match the underwhelming opening of some previous releases.
Based on reports, the movie “Thunderbolts,” directed by Jake Schreier, made approximately $11 million during its Thursday previews on May 1st. However, the earnings for “Thunderbolts” were slightly lower than the Thursday previews of “Brave New World,” which earned a higher amount back in February.
As a devoted fan, I eagerly anticipated the next chapter in the saga, “Brave New World,” following closely on the heels of the popular Disney+ miniseries, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Yet, the Captain America sequel fell short of my expectations. Despite its high production budget of $180 million, it only managed to earn a global revenue of $415 million, placing it towards the lower end in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s box-office standings. Interestingly, “Brave New World” was reportedly made on the same budget as this Captain America film, but during its opening weekend, it brought in less than the $88 million that the latest Captain America installment garnered.
the blockbuster supernatural thriller, “Sinners,” and the record-breaking 2025 Hollywood hit, “The Minecraft Movie.” With an impressive 89% critical rating and a 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, “Thunderbolts” is one of the most acclaimed MCU films in recent times.
The film “Thunderbolts” follows a gang of ex-villains such as (Florence Pugh), Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ava Starr/Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) and (Wyatt Russell). This action-packed superhero movie finds the group, led by their unofficial leader (Sebastian Stan), in a lethal predicament orchestrated by CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). To gain redemption for their past transgressions, they’re forced to undertake a risky mission. The movie also presents the enigmatic character (Lewis Pullman), who is similar to Superman but suffers from amnesia and interacts with the team.
Thunderbolts* Has Drawn High Praise
In the movie “Thunderbolts,” Yelena takes center stage as the story revolves around her personal struggles after the demise of her adoptive sister, Natasha Romanoff. The film further develops her unique bond with Red Guardian, similar to a father-daughter relationship, as seen in previous instances. Moreover, the plot lays the groundwork for future events, such as the Thunderbolts teaming up with the X-Men, The Fantastic Four, the Wakandans, and Captain America to combat the latest threat in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
Thunderbolts* is now showing in theaters across North America.
