Thunderbolts New Look Brings Back a Subtle Marvel Fan Favorite

As a die-hard Marvel fan with decades worth of comics under my belt and countless movie viewings to boot, I can’t contain my excitement for the return of Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes in the upcoming film, *Thunderbolts*! His long hair is back, and so is his signature badass attitude. It’s been a while since we last saw him, and I must admit, I’ve missed seeing him catch that shield with such finesse.

Yesterday, in Marvel’s 85th anniversary video reveal, Thunderbolts* made a fleeting appearance. The entire team was patiently waiting in an elevator, anticipating the completion of their mission on the other side of those doors. However, it seems that Sebastian Stan has grown his hair out again, and Marvel enthusiasts are overjoyed by this change. Last we saw Bucky, in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” his hair was closely cropped as he assisted Sam Wilson in adapting to the role of Captain America. It’s been a while since then, so it appears that he’s back to sporting the shaggy hairstyle he had while menacingly catching Steve Rogers’ shield.

It’s quite evident that Stan is eagerly anticipating his return to the Marvel universe, having felt its absence over the past few years. Lately, he hasn’t shown up in any post-credits scenes. However, this is set to be rectified with the release of Thunderbolts next year. Stan expressed his excitement about this upcoming re-entry to Variety, sharing that he has been eagerly waiting for this moment for some time now.

In a recent interview with Variety, Stan expressed his anticipation, stating he plans to return within approximately a month. He shared that he has genuinely missed the experience and finds the cast exceptional. When asked about the quality of the project, he noted it’s challenging but rewarding, as the success rate is impressive, even if not every aspect falls into place immediately. Overall, he believes there are many positive aspects to this upcoming endeavor.

Why Is This Movie Called Thunderbolts*?

One of the intriguing mysteries regarding “Thunderbolts” is: Why the asterisk? We’ll likely find out more about this as the release date for this film approaches. At CinemaCon this year, Marvel Cinematic Universe architect Kevin Feige hinted at it, saying, “Yes, you’ll notice the asterisk on ‘Thunderbolts.’ That is the official title of ‘Thunderbolts,’ and we won’t reveal any more details until after the movie has been released.” Therefore, we’re left to speculate for now. The other Marvel releases scheduled around it may offer some hints.

Years ago at San Diego Comic-Con, when the plans for Phases 4, 5, and 6 were unveiled, many speculated that “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Thunderbolts” would be interconnected. Now, with the release of the latest Captain America trailer, there aren’t any obvious links, but there are subtle hints. We know that “Cap 4” features Tiamut the Celestial and some kind of involvement with the U.S. government. Additionally, it seems likely that the same authority dispatched Bucky and his team to whatever peril they face in that elevator. As a result, fans have largely come to believe that “Thunderbolts” might be a covert take on the “Dark Avengers” storyline.
