Jake Schreier, director of “Thunderbolts”, disclosed that the movie’s post-credits scene was added at the very last minute. In an interview with ComicBook to publicize the upcoming Marvel film, Schreier discussed the process behind the creation of this post-credits sequence. The footage wasn’t filmed until quite recently, approximately a month before “Thunderbolts” is set to premiere in theaters. Schreier further mentioned that although he was on set when the scene was shot, it was not him who directed it. He praised Marvel Studios, known for its proficiency with post-credits scenes, for managing this addition effectively.
Schreier mentioned that the details surrounding the making of that pivotal credit scene emerged rather late in the process. It was likely filmed just recently, perhaps not even a full month ago. They’re quite skilled at what they do over there.
He didn’t capture that particular scene, but rather, he was present when it was being recorded. It’s possible that the production for which this scene was made is starting or about to start soon, making it exciting for people to stick around and observe. However, he felt incredibly privileged to be a part of it. From the outset, we had envisioned that final moment, and then our focus shifted towards crafting a story worthy of that climax, which I believe we achieved.
Since Nick Fury first appeared in the original Iron Man movie, post-credit scenes have been a common feature in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Throughout the years, these segments have served various functions. Some hint at future Marvel productions, while others aim to provide a humorous ending. With the approach of the Multiverse Saga’s conclusion, there is much anticipation about how the stage will be set for Avengers: Doomsday.
It’s not unusual for Marvel to film post-credit scenes towards the end of production, as exemplified by the well-known shawarma scene at the end of The Avengers. Similarly, directors sometimes take charge of these scenes separately from the main project. For instance, although Nia DaCosta wasn’t part of Ms. Marvel, she directed the show’s post-credit scene that paves the way for The Marvels.
It’s intriguing to understand that even late in the game, Marvel can still be tweaking their post-credits scenes. While they meticulously plan their films years in advance, it appears not every detail is finalized until the last moment. Kevin Feige and his team may explore several possibilities before settling on the most suitable one, followed by working out the specifics. The film under discussion, possibly Avengers: Doomsday, has recently commenced production. We know that some stars from the upcoming film Thunderbolts* are involved in it, and Florence Pugh has already filmed additional material on a “pre-photography day.
