With an illustrious career spanning Doctor Who, Sherlock, and League of Gentlemen, it’s no wonder that Gatiss has managed to assemble such a formidable cast for Woman of Stone. Over the last several days, there’s definitely a nip in the atmosphere, and with Christmas drawing near, it signals a favorite tradition for many: spine-tingling ghost tales.
Luckily, the co-creator of Sherlock and writer for Doctor Who, Mark Gatiss, returns to deliver the chilling holiday atmosphere you’ve been craving, as he introduces another tale in his Ghost Story for Christmas collection.
I’ve been thoroughly captivated by the six eerie short films that Gatiss has brought to life in this series, serving as a mesmerizing resurrection of the 1970s anthology bearing the same title.
In contrast to the previous version, Lot No. 249 from last year featuring Kit Harington and Freddie Fox, this current production boasts a no less illustrious ensemble cast and is adapted from Edith Nesbit’s short story titled “Man-size in Marble.
Mark Gatiss is responsible for both writing and directing a short film entitled “Woman of Stone.” Actors from various popular series are featured in this production, including Éanna Hardwicke (The Sixth Commandment), Celia Imrie (The Thursday Murder Club), Monica Dolan (Black Mirror), Mawaan Rizwan (Taskmaster), and Phoebe Horn (Call the Midwife).
“The summary for Woman of Stone goes like this: In her last moments, E Nesbit narrates the spine-tingling story about the young married couple, Jack and Laura, who are Victorian.
Enthusiasts are sure to rejoice at the news that the collection will make a comeback in the current year, especially since Gatiss previously expressed concerns about the future of Lot No. 249 within the series, given financial limitations.
