TikToker Found a Rug Buried In Her Yard & Was Convinced It Was a Body

As a lifestyle expert with a knack for unraveling intriguing stories, I must say that the saga of Katie Santry and her mysterious rug has been quite the rollercoaster ride. The way she handled this bizarre situation, from her initial curiosity to her decisive action in calling the authorities, speaks volumes about her compassionate nature and strong will.

A true crime story almost unfolded right before Katie Santry’s eyes.

After a TikToker posted on Oct 1 that they discovered a rolled-up rug hidden in their backyard while they and their boyfriend Brandon were digging holes for a new fence, this eventually prompted forensic teams to investigate their yard in Columbus, OH.

But while human remains were ultimately not found, as local police confirmed to TopMob News Oct. 4, it was a saga that gripped the internet. Here’s a breakdown of exactly what happened—and why TikTok was convinced something afoul was afoot.

At first, Katie didn’t give much thought to the rug she’d recently found. However, one morning she woke up to find her laptop screen smashed and her desk in disarray. Since none of her boyfriend, his children, or her son admitted to being near the sunroom, she began to ponder if there was some supernatural link between the damaged laptop and the rug.

Katie wondered on her TikTok post in October, could it be that something unpleasant is hidden within that carpet? Or perhaps it’s a spirit from the carpet’s history? Whatever the case may be, what on earth transpired? Could it be a spirit causing the damage to my belongings?

Instead, they continued excavating while regularly updating their progress on the internet. However, the duo had to discontinue their work because of the tough soil conditions and pre-existing features in their yard.

Despite her efforts, Katie continued to ponder the possibility. She expressed this thought to People, saying, “Could it be true that there is indeed a body? Couldn’t one help a person achieve rest, couldn’t one assist a family in finding closure?

On October 2nd, she made a call to authorities, which she herself considered as potentially unnecessary. Nevertheless, two police officers arrived at her residence within just fifteen minutes. Although they acknowledged the situation was peculiar, as Katie explained, they felt that the potential findings from an online search outweighed the current circumstances, so they decided to conduct an investigation online instead.

Katie wasn’t entirely taken aback by the decision. In her words to People, “I genuinely don’t believe there’s a corpse beneath it.” What intrigues her most is the mystery behind why that rug is placed there. However, her main worry revolves around her computer, as it broke without any obvious cause. This leaves her with the most unanswered questions.

Overwhelmed by my unwavering fascination, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of anticipation when news of her extraordinary tale spiraled across digital platforms, amassing over 1.4 million followers in just three short days. This intriguing development piqued the interest of local homicide detectives who dispatched their team and specially trained canines to her residence on October 3rd. In the footage she shared from this visit, it was captivating to witness both dogs instinctively zeroing in on the very spot where she had discovered the rug.

Following this development, forensic units were dispatched to excavate the site, with the police additionally verifying the information to TopMob News. The probe was reactivated on October 4th.

Following their visit, Katie expressed her feelings by saying, “From there on out, things took a turn for the worse. I became extremely frightened, on the verge of panic. I questioned if I needed a lawyer when I asked the police officers, who were aware that I had made the call and appeared to have no concerns it might be me.

Next up, crime scene investigators are coming to examine the area,” she explained. “They suggested that the rug might have bloodstains, but it doesn’t automatically imply a corpse is hidden in my backyard.

She revealed on TikTok on October 4 that a tent had been pitched and nine police officers along with CSI personnel were present in the backyard. They’ve restricted how close she can get, and now they are bringing in their gear.

“They’re digging, they’ve been digging,” she added. “Some of them are in the hole.”

She pointed out that we’re still clueless about the situation. Maybe the dogs were having a tough day, or they picked up the wrong trail – it’s all speculation.

Hopefully, she added, “We can all laugh about this tomorrow.”

Indeed, it’s been confirmed that there was no trace of human remains on Katie’s property, causing her to let out a long-awaited sigh of relief and likely some laughter in the end.

Katie informed her audience that “they’ve filled in the gap” instead. She expressed that this incident was the wildest experience she’s ever had. Contrary to speculation, they didn’t discover a corpse. What they uncovered was an unexpected rug made of rubber.

And while Katie still wondered about her broken laptop, the outcome wasn’t an undesirable one.

“There’s no body,” Katie concluded her video. “Yay!”
