Timothée Chalamet sings in first-look trailer for Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown

As a movie lover who grew up listening to Bob Dylan’s iconic music and being fascinated by his enigmatic persona, I cannot contain my excitement for James Mangold’s upcoming biopic, “A Complete Unknown.” The first trailer has just been released, and it takes us back in time to the 1960s New York City scene where a young Bob Dylan was on the brink of becoming a global sensation.

The initial trailer for the film “A Complete Unknown,” directed by James Mangold, has been released, offering a peek at Timothée Chalamet’s portrayal of Bob Dylan-like character to eager fans.

A highly anticipated biopic penned by Mangold and Jay Cocks takes us through the formative years of the music icon in New York City, culminating in his groundbreaking showcase at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival.

In the video clips, Chalamet performs the role of A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall from the 1960s and sings the songs himself, similar to Austin Butler’s approach for his Elvis character.

In the latest preview, there’s a hint of romantic tension between Dylan and Joan Baez, portrayed by Monica Barbaro, as well as Sylvie Russo, played by Elle Fanning – believed to be an on-screen representation of Suze Rotolo, a real-life figure who was Dylans former lover.

In addition to the main cast, Edward Norton portrays Pete Seeger, Boyd Holbrook takes on the role of Johnny Cash, Dan Fogler becomes Albert Grossman, PJ Byrne is Harold Leventhal, Norbert Leo Butz plays Alan Lomax, Scoot McNairy is Woody Guthrie, and Will Harrison depicts Bob Neuwirth in the movie.

Previously, Mangold shared with The Hollywood Reporter his motivation behind sharing Dylan’s tale: “The allure of this period in American history is immense. Imagine a 19-year-old Bob Dylan arriving in New York City with just a couple of dollars, and within three years, he transforms into a global sensation. Initially, he is welcomed into the folk music community in New York. However, as his stardom explodes, he ultimately surpasses them.”

“He went on, expressing how intriguing and significant this actual event was in American history.”

A Complete Unknown will be released in UK and Ireland cinemas in January 2025.
