View Urgent ForecastThe six-part series, taking place in Wales, unfolds the story of former actor John Chapel (played by Spall) and Detective Sergeant Janie Mallowan (portrayed by Gwyneth Keyworth). As an unusual crime-solving duo, they join forces.
The series is set to make its debut at 8:15 PM on Sunday, 25th May, and it’s been officially announced that this will take place on BBC One, not BBC Two or iPlayer.
The show is penned by Paul Doolan, who’s known for his work on comedies like Mammoth and Trollied. Its plot goes something like this: “John and Janie, an unusual pair with contrasting impulses, find themselves united following the murder of John’s neighbor.
Each week, they unravel captivating murder mysteries, using diverse, breathtaking Welsh landscapes as a setting for their investigations.
When John and Janie aren’t debating legal matters, they often find themselves delving into each other’s private affairs. Regardless of their disagreements, they eventually recognize that they are each other’s closest equivalents to a best friend. Unconsciously, they assist one another in overcoming past hurdles.
Besides Spall, the cast also includes two beloved characters from Gavin & Stacy, specifically Steffan Rhodri portraying Dave Coach and Melanie Walters as Gwen West.
In this scenario, Rhodri assumes the position of Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) Clarke, who acts as a supervisor and guide for Janie from Keyworth. On the other hand, Walters portrays Yvonne, Janie’s mother.
Regarding the series and its talented cast, Doolan has nothing but positive remarks: “Being a big enthusiast of crime stories and comedy writing, it’s been a joy to witness this show unfold with an exceptional collection of actors and notable guest stars portraying our diverse lineup of suspects.
