Tina Knowles is opening up about her health.
The mother of both Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, affectionately known as their matriarch, has revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Tina shared with Gayle King during an interview on CBS Mornings on April 22nd that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in her left breast. She became emotional because, despite her efforts to take care of herself, the diagnosis took her by surprise.
Despite forgetting to schedule a follow-up mammogram due to the COVID pandemic, the 71-year-old eventually arranged it the previous year. During this appointment, physicians discovered two tumors, with one turning out to be non-cancerous and the other being malignant.
She clarified to Gayle that it was the initial phase she believed to be the earliest one. Later, when she shared this with her sister, her sister corrected her, mentioning there’s actually a ‘preliminary stage.’ If she had undergone a mammogram earlier, she would have detected it at the preliminary stage. Thankfully, it was still quite tiny and hadn’t spread much. It was a slow-growing cancer.
The fashion designer had a lumpectomy to take out the cancer, mentioning that her dear ones were there with her during the operation.
All my children and relatives arrived at the hospital, making me anxious. Immediately, they began cracking jokes to lighten the mood.
My kids and family members turned up at the hospital, leaving me feeling uneasy. As a result, they started joking around with me to ease the tension.
Beyond sharing playful TikTok clips with her daughter Solange, Tina also posted about them singing “Walk With Me”, a song they sang in their youth and holds special significance for her.
She confided, with a touch of emotion, “They sang that song, and it was as if I stepped into a place where I truly felt God’s guidance over me.
