Tina Knowles had her girls by her side during her most challenging moment.
Last year, as I was about to undergo a difficult surgery due to my stage 1 breast cancer diagnosis, my amazing daughters, Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, along with Beyoncé’s longtime bandmate, Kelly Rowland, and my niece, Angie Beyincé, came up with the most comforting remedy to calm my nerves.
Spoiler alert: It was very demure, very mindful.
During a CBS Mornings interview on April 22, Tina, 71 years old, shared that she watched a viral video featuring Jools Lebron. The video showcased a young transgender woman who was intentionally and demurely presented herself. As they watched it, Tina and another person laughed at the video. Just before her surgery, they looked at this clip together, which helped Tina to relax and get out of her anxious state.
“And I say, ‘I’m so happy that y’all are here.’”
Beyond just the video conversation, I too can vouch for the unity within my household, as we’ve collectively found ways to boost my spirit and create a harmonious atmosphere.
I recalled the frequent tune ‘Walk With Me,’ and while Michelle wasn’t present, Solange took her place, and Angie sang too. Tina explained this, mentioning they sang ‘Walk with Me.’ This song signifies God guiding you through something and shielding you. As they sang it, I stepped in feeling as though God was by my side.
After undergoing a lumpectomy (a surgical procedure to remove cancer from her left breast), Tina disclosed that she had contracted an infection which nearly prevented her from attending the October Glamour Women of the Year Awards where she was honored on the cover alongside notable moms Maggie Baird, Donna Kelce and Mandy Teefey.
Meanwhile, Beyoncé urged her to stay put, but Tina expressed her desire to attend the celebration for her most recent achievement instead.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it like this: “Reflecting on that moment, Beyonce’s words echo in my mind: ‘You’re not acting like yourself.’ She urged me to prioritize my health above all else, insisting I should step back. But in that situation, her advice resonated deeply with me as a personal affirmation: ‘I deserve recognition for who I am and what I do.’
At the event, Tina took advantage of having Beyoncé, Solange, and Kelly present to express her personal gratitude towards them, a gesture that may have gone unnoticed by the general public due to the depth of their backing.
She explained, ‘When I mentioned having them around, it would make anything bearable for me.’ However, no one seemed to understand the context of my statement.
