Tish Cyrus is reflecting on divorce from Billy Ray Cyrus.
Over two years since their separation in 2022, Tish, who looks after the careers of their daughters Miley Cyrus and Noah Cyrus, has spoken publicly about the reasons behind the end of their 28-year union, despite her attempts to keep it going.
On their November 25th podcast, “Sibling Revelry” hosted by Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson, Tish candidly shared, “I never desired to go through a divorce. In our line of work, the world we inhabit is already strange and at times unpredictable. I wished for us to make it work – perhaps for too long – for my own mental wellbeing.
She added, “There became a point that, like, I didn’t have a choice.”
Following the cancellation of divorce proceedings initiated in 2010 and 2013 by the former pair, who are also related to Brandi Cyrus (age 37), Trace Cyrus (age 35), and Braison Cyrus (age 30) – all of whom share the same family, Tish acknowledged that the separation in 2022 was a difficult experience for everyone involved, despite the fact that their children were already adults at that time.
For instance, regarding my child Trace, he expressed disappointment. He expressed himself something like, ‘I wish my parents had never… I wish things hadn’t turned out that way.’
Brandi, participating alongside her mother in the podcast, likewise voiced her thoughts about why Tish had been determined to keep the marriage going for such a prolonged period.
She clarified that in earlier instances, Noah was quite young, which was significant. Her mother greatly valued keeping the family united for Noah’s sake during those years. However, as Noah grew up, she admitted that it wasn’t ideal under the circumstances.
“But also,” she continued, “we were all old enough to understand it.”
Following their divorce, Tish got married to the actor Dominic Purcell (from Prison Break) in 2023. Meanwhile, Billy Ray Cyrus wed singer FireRose in the same year, but by May they had filed for divorce after seven months of marriage due to claims that she kept him away from his family and fabricated her identity. They reached an agreement on their settlement terms in August.

During that time, she examined her life thoroughly and questioned herself about her future actions, as she put it to Alex Cooper in their February conversation on Call Her Daddy. She explained that the relationship hadn’t been healthy for a long while, and she admits she stayed because of the fear of solitude. She had first met him when she was around 23 or 24 years old.
Luckily, her period of solitude didn’t last long because her relationship with Dominic flourished swiftly following their initial outing together.

Billy Ray Cyrus married Tish Cyrus (née Leticia Finley) on Dec. 28, 2003.
At that point in time, they had already co-parented a 12-month-old daughter named Destiny Hope Cyrus, who is now well-known as Miley Cyrus, and Tish was carrying their son, Braison Cyrus, who made his arrival on May 9, 1994.

It seems that the disagreement or distance between Miley and her father wasn’t resolved by the time of the 2024 Grammies, which took place on February 4.
Tish, Brandi, and Miley’s partner Maxx Morando were all present, and each of them received recognition as Miley Cyrus was awarded Record of the Year.
As Miley concluded her speech, “I don’t think I forgot anyone.”
