TNA’s Josh Alexander Talks Heel Turn, Promises Joe Hendry Will Never Be Champ in TNA

As a seasoned wrestling fan, I must say, Josh Alexander has been a beacon of resilience and dedication in TNA over the past five years. His unwavering commitment to the company, even during challenging times like COVID-19, is truly commendable. He’s not just a wrestler; he’s the heart and soul of TNA.

As a diehard TNA fan, I’ve been captivated by Josh Alexander for quite some time now – he’s undoubtedly one of the biggest stars that TNA has ever seen. For the majority of this period, he’s been adored by fans, as we cheered him on as he scaled the wrestling mountain, only to conquer it again and again. He’s become a legend, an iconic TNA Champion that will be remembered for generations to come.

Shake-Up at Slammiversary

The tension escalated significantly at Slammiversary, a event where Alexander participated in a Six-Man Elimination Match for the TNA World Championship alongside Moose, Nic Nemeth, Joe Hendry, Steve Maclin, and Frankie Kazarian. After Hendry eliminated Moose, setting the stage for a new Champion, Alexander delivered a surprising low blow to Hendry and then taunted him following the pin. This leads us to ponder: Does Alexander see himself as having turned into a heel in that instance, or simply misunderstood?

Alexander expressed that he doesn’t consider himself a villain, but fans can perceive him as they wish. He feels he has reached his limit during Slammiversary. With his return to his home country and proudly displaying the Maple Leaf on his wrestling attire for 19 years, he believes Canada has produced some of the greatest professional wrestlers over the past four or five decades. While there might be disagreements about this, Alexander feels he is part of that elite group. He came to challenge for the World Championship with his home country, but didn’t receive the warm welcome he believed he deserved after pouring out blood, sweat, and tears in the TNA ring for the past five years. It continues to frustrate him show after show.

Joe Hendry

Alexander is equally conscious of Joe Hendry’s rising fame, which was evident even before Slammiversary. This awareness is part of the reason why Alexander decided to make such a public declaration. Although Alexander has no qualms with Hendry attracting fresh viewers to the company, he also wants to emphasize that he isn’t the top star within the company.

Alexander stated, “I recognize his fame, I’m not oblivious – Joe Hendry is definitely a popular figure. He’s managed to attract some fresh viewers to TNA. However, it’s disheartening when one’s efforts go unacknowledged, even after such a long time. And when he defeated Moose, I was in the audience watching as he pinned him, and I could hear and see the crowd’s reaction. In my opinion, I may have actually helped Joe Hendry in that instance because I don’t believe he’s ready for main events or to be a World Champion. Preparation is crucial – I’ve been the longest-reigning World Champion in this company, and it was evident that Joe Hendry wasn’t prepared for me in that moment.”

As someone who has spent years honing my craft in the wrestling world, I can confidently say that I’ve taught Joe a priceless lesson. I hope he takes it to heart and continues to grow as a performer. You see, there’s a certain mindset and skillset required to thrive in this industry, and Joe has what it takes to be successful – but only up to a point.

Mixed Reactions

Next week’s promo, Alexander addressed the audience, explaining his reasons for eliminating Hendry and setting his sights on a TNA World Championship battle against Nemeth. He presented some convincing arguments, with the crowd continuing to applaud during certain parts of his speech, albeit turning quiet when the topic shifted to Hendry. Alexander is a firm advocate for TNA introducing new talents, as long as it’s acknowledged that he was the trailblazer who paved the way for those fresh faces to shine.

Alexander stated, “Absolutely, as I mentioned earlier, I’m not pretentious. I constantly evaluate myself in the mirror, but I walk with confidence, speak honestly, and I believe others can hardly argue with my truth. The points I made, just like you pointed out, were well-founded.

In essence, when I express that I carried the company on my shoulders, it’s something I take great pride in. To challenge this or suggest I’m exaggerating, I believe they haven’t been paying close attention to TNA over the last five years since no one else was wrestling extended matches during COVID with no audience. I was the one who took on that challenge, and I enjoyed it immensely. It felt like a golden chance had come my way, and I was thrilled because I knew it would propel my career forward, and it did just that.

Walk the Walk

“Defending the World Championship for nearly a year against a murderer’s row. Every single time my music hit before I went out, I was having this inner monologue between TNA fan Josh, who doesn’t believe you’re even in this position, being like, ‘Oh man, can you do this? That’s Bully Ray out there.’ And then Josh Alexander, the current one in his head fighting him off, being like, You have worked your ass off for this. You have been in the ring with Christian Cage and Eric Young and all these people. You can go out there and kick this guy’s ass. You’re the walking weapon. You’re the standard. You’re the heart and soul of this company. You go out there, defend this title, and you bring this company to new heights,” Alexander said.

Alexander stated, “I was really proud of what I achieved. But when the Championship was stripped from me due to an injury, not because a professional wrestler surpassed me, it made things even more intense. Now, as I see the company achieving record crowds, breaking attendance records, and thriving, it’s just a snowball effect of successful shows. We have fantastic audiences, and it’s rewarding to see new fans appreciate us. However, I feel they don’t give me the recognition I believe I deserve. To prove my point, I will use their favorite wrestlers as examples. Unfortunately for Joe, he is one of them.”

You can watch Alexander vs Nemeth battle for the World Title tonight at 8/7 CST on AXS TV.

I can’t help but feel pumped up about Alexander’s latest chapter! If you’re as passionate about wrestling as I am, let’s exchange thoughts on Threads and Twitter. My handle is @mattaguilarcb!
