The orb eventually metamorphoses from a rock, to a wolf, and ultimately into a boy, behaving much like a newborn with limited understanding. As the boy, it is named Fushi. Interactions with human compassion not only teach Fushi survival skills, but also foster his personal development. However, his path is marred by the mysterious and malevolent presence of Nokker, as well as heartbreaking separations from those he cherishes.
