Following the emotional announcement by longtime host Hoda Kotb on September 26 that she would be stepping down from her co-hosting duties, her colleague Dylan shared some thoughts on potential replacements for the “essence” or “lifeblood” of NBC’s The Today Show.
As Dylan suggests, today’s team, featuring Craig Melvin, Sheinelle Jones, Jenna Bush Hager, Carson Daly, and Weekend Today coanchors Peter Alexander and Laura Jarrett, is so strong that she thinks any of them could step up to co-anchor alongside Savannah Guthrie with equal talent.
Dylan shared with TopMob News cohost Keltie Knight at the 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards on September 26th that he doesn’t believe it would come as a shock if anyone from our main team was chosen. He added that we’ve all stepped in when someone is absent, although no decisions have been made yet. However, if it’s one of the core members, he feels it wouldn’t be particularly surprising.
The weather forecaster jokingly commented, “It’s no secret that I’d love for Al Roker to retire. Let’s face it.
But the news of Hoda’s departure, on the other hand, came as a surprise.
Dylan mentioned that he discovered around ten minutes prior to the event’s commencement. It seems like this is roughly when everyone else became aware as well.
But despite the unexpected news, several members of The Today Show were on hand to support Hoda—who is mom to daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 5—as she delivered the update on air.
Hoda expressed, through tears, that she had come to understand that at age 60, it was fitting to embark on a fresh journey. She recalled being outside among a group of beautiful people holding inspiring signs, and she felt, ‘This is the pinnacle for me.’ She thought it couldn’t get any better and decided that this was the perfect moment for her to transition to something new.
She went on to share that she plans to focus more on her family.
She explained, “Since I had my children later in life, I feel they deserve a larger slice of my time pie. Time, as we know, is limited. Given these circumstances, making this decision is extremely difficult for me.
