Today's Al Roker Shares Moving Message on Health Journey

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but be moved by Al Roker‘s inspiring journey and the beautiful way he embraces life. His 70th birthday week was a testament to his resilience, love, and the deep bond he shares with his family and friends. His health challenges have undoubtedly given him a newfound appreciation for each day, and it’s evident in every smile, every laugh, and every heartfelt moment he shares on television.

Al Roker has a lot to celebrate in his neck of the woods.

As a long-time viewer of the Today show, I have had the pleasure of watching Al Roker navigate the weather and entertain us with his quick wit for nearly three decades. Seeing him celebrate his 70th birthday on air was truly special, especially since it was not just any ordinary celebration. His fellow hosts, Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, and Sheinelle Jones, joined in the festivities to make it an unforgettable week for Al.

In an exclusive chat with TopMob News, Al, who experienced multiple hospitalizations last year, reflected that health problems – whether they affect oneself or a loved one – serve as a stark reminder of the preciousness of life. This realization brings about a heightened focus on personal and family health, as well as that of those around you. It also deepens your gratitude for each passing day.

In my journey towards a healthier lifestyle, I’ve made some adjustments, but let me assure you, my passion for barbecues and pies remains as strong as ever!

“He joked, ‘I have my doubts about folks who skip pie.’ However, I must clarify, balance is key – everything should be enjoyed in moderation.”

To kick off his birthday week, Al’s wife of 28 years, Deborah Roberts, brought all three of his children—Courtney, Leila and Nick—together to throw him a surprise party complete with a performance from his favorite band, Earth, Wind & Fire.

“Al reminisced about a fantastic gathering, describing it as incredibly special. He was delighted that everyone he had hoped to be there actually attended. As he watched his children reunite as grown-ups, it felt as if they truly valued and respected each other.”

However, the festivities didn’t cease following the party. On today’s date, Mayor Eric Adams honored Al with an exceptional gift – a key to the city – during a morning dedicated entirely to his birthday celebrations. This was a fitting closure as Al’s father had been a city bus driver.

“Al mentioned he’d spent his childhood here. His goal all along had been to return to New York, not for the city itself, but because it was his hometown. He wanted his mother to be able to watch him on TV. Since we often try to do something at the end of the day to make our parents proud.”

Additionally, during the third hour of Today, Craig and Sheinelle, fellow co-hosts to Al, found themselves reminiscing fondly about shared experiences with him throughout the years. Given his affectionate nickname for them as the “morning TV’s Avengers,” it’s no surprise they felt moved to express their cherished memories.

Craig shared with TopMob that this person is admired for his on-screen persona and longevity, but it’s his off-camera life that truly exemplifies him. He’s not just the broadcaster one aspires to be, but rather the kind of man, father, and husband one aspires to be. It’s truly awe-inspiring, and I can’t fathom how he manages it.

Speaking from the heart as a dedicated fan, I’m eagerly counting down the days until my dear friend Craig hosts his third annual Bottoms Up Invitational starting on September 15. This event is not just a celebration, but a heartfelt tribute to his beloved brother, Lawrence Meadows, and a noble endeavor to support the Colorectal Cancer Alliance.

“During his lifetime, we made significant efforts in multiple areas such as increasing screenings, fundraising for research, and promoting open conversations about family medical history,” he clarified. “We initiated these actions while he was still alive. As it became clear that he wouldn’t recover, he requested me to continue my work through my network, making this a crucial part of my life’s mission.”

On Sunday, there will be a concert as part of the event, and then on the following Monday morning, there will be some mediocre golf, as Craig would put it.

As a lifestyle expert, I firmly believe in breaking down stigmas and fostering open discussions. That’s why I’ve been actively working to debunk misconceptions about a particular health issue often overlooked as “not glamorous” or “sexy.” By demystifying this topic and encouraging more conversations around it, we can empower individuals to take control of their health and wellness journey.
