Todd Chrisley Released From Prison After Donald Trump Pardon

Todd Chrisley is free. 

After spending over two years behind bars for their respective sentences of 12 and 7 years on charges of wire fraud, conspiring to commit bank fraud, and defrauding the United States, Todd Chrisley, star of “Chrisley Knows Best”, has now been freed from prison, according to his lawyer’s confirmation to TopMob News.

The lawyer announced that Todd, who was previously imprisoned, is now traveling back to Nashville. We are still waiting for news about Julie.

On the night of May 28th, Todd was released from the Federal Prison Camp in Pensacola, Florida, after being granted a presidential pardon by Donald Trump. As for Julie, she too has received a pardon, but the exact date of her release from her facility in Kentucky remains uncertain.

According to their attorney Jay Surgent, the Chrisleys were rightfully pardoned by President Trump. He stated in a May 27 statement to TopMob News that the constitutional rights of the couple had been violated by Georgia authorities due to their fame and the unlawful seizure of evidence by these authorities. This evidence should have been suppressed, and it was improper for the federal government to prosecute them based on this.

The lawyer went on to say, “President Trump rightly freed them due to the injustice they had experienced, which affected both Julie and Todd.

Prior to granting clemency, Trump contacted the children of Todd and Julie Chrisley, Savannah (27 years old) and Grayson (19 years old), to inform them that he was planning to pardon their parents following what he deemed as “excessive punishment” in a situation he believed should not have occurred.

During the May 27th phone call, as shared on X (previously known as Twitter) by Margo Martin, White House Communications Adviser, President Trump said, “I hope we can make them both available and tidy up, and I’m aiming for us to accomplish this by tomorrow. Does that work for you? We’ll give it our best shot for tomorrow.

Before the pardon, Todd (age 56) and Julie (age 52) were scheduled for release from prison, with Todd set free in April 2032 and Julie in January 2028, based on records we’ve seen at TopMob News. Notably, Todd’s sentence was shortened to a term of 10 years.

In August 2019, a federal grand jury in Atlanta indicted Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley on twelve counts. The charges included wire fraud, conspiring to commit bank fraud, and deceiving the United States government. According to reports from NBC News, the alleged fraud started during the mid-2000s and involved various misconduct such as evading around $2 million in state taxes between 2008 and 2016, and concealing over $1 million from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

A day prior to the issuance of the indictment, Todd asserted that he and his spouse were not guilty. Instead, he alleged that a reliable employee had been embezzling funds and extorting them.

In his Instagram post, he asserted, “We’re completely transparent and have no cause for embarrassment. Not only are we certain that we haven’t done anything incorrect, but we possess substantial proof in the form of evidence and numerous supporting witnesses to back this up.

Three years after the fact, it wasn’t until then that the stars of Chrisley Knows Best faced trial. Over a three-week period, testimonies were heard, and despite pleading not guilty, they were found guilty of all charges related to tax evasion and bank fraud on June 7, 2022.

As a lifestyle expert, I find myself shedding light on a fascinating tale that unfolded over the past decade. In this narrative, it’s me who is being referred to. Alongside two associates and an accountant named Peter Tarantino, we were indicted by the U.S. attorney’s office for an alleged scheme. This scheme involved us attempting to deceive numerous banks out of a substantial sum exceeding $30 million. The trial that followed was a significant chapter in this intriguing saga.

In Keri Farley’s June 2022 statement as Special Agent in Charge of FBI Atlanta, she emphasized that regardless of one’s reputation, wealth, or status, dishonesty through lying, cheating, and stealing will not evade justice. She further stated that when motivated by greed, the conviction of these three defendants on all charges serves as a reminder that financial crimes do not lead to prosperity.

After a span of five months, the Northern District of Georgia handed down sentences: Todd received a 12-year imprisonment term, while Julie was given a sentence of seven years. (Meanwhile, Peter was given a three-year prison sentence.)

For approximately ten years, the accused individuals swindled banks out of numerous millions of dollars, all while avoiding paying their federal income taxes. As stated by U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan in a November 2022 declaration, the severe penalties they received underscore the gravity of their criminal act and should deter others from misusing our country’s banking system for illicit personal enrichment.

In September 2023, the sentences for both Julie and Todd were adjusted: Julie is now set to be released a total of one year and three months ahead of schedule, while Todd’s release date was moved up by two years from its original 2035 date.

Jay Surgent, the attorneys for Todd and Julie, stated to Insider in September 2023 that without a doubt, they are exemplary inmates serving unusually long sentences. Currently, Todd’s sentence stands at ten years, while Julie’s has been reduced to five years.

In January 2023, Todd and his partner began serving their individual sentences. Todd is serving his sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Pensacola, Florida, while Julie is incarcerated at a separate federal penitentiary in Lexington, Kentucky.

Approximately half a year following the incarceration of both Julie and Todd, their daughter, Savannah Chrisley, provided some insights about their well-being. She disclosed that, while they were imprisoned, there was no communication or contact between the two.

She wrote on Instagram in August 2023: “It’s been 195 days without any contact…” Her heart is heavy with sorrow… Please aid in achieving justice!

She also pushed back at rumors about their time in prison.

In her “Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley” podcast, she found it amusing when someone commented that one person had let himself go. She explained that since hair color isn’t available in prison commissaries, his gray hair was inevitable. If she could speak to him now, she would approve of his current appearance and even encourage him to keep the style, as it suits him well!

Instead, Todd expressed his concerns about the treatment he received at the federal prison camp in Pensacola, Florida, even though he was imprisoned.

He mentioned during a call on the December 2023 edition of Cuomo that the food was not fresh, as it had passed its expiration date by a full year.

He went on to explain, “There are rats and squirrels infesting the storage facility where the food is kept. They concealed it with plastic sheets but eventually tore through the ceiling due to black mold growth. In doing so, they discovered a deceased cat up in the ceiling, which unfortunately fell onto the food.

Besides the dreadful events in the cafeteria, he claimed someone had also tried to blackmail his family members.

He mentioned that someone had snapped a picture of him as he slept and shared it with his daughter. In the message, he requested $2,600 per month for his safety and security.

In the absence of their parents due to legal issues, Savannah takes care of her younger siblings Grayson and Chloe. She has openly shared that the consequences of their incarceration and limited communication between them have been a heavy burden for her.

In an exclusive interview with TopMob News last March 2024, I revealed that the last conversation we had was just before they were both sent to federal prison. I’m deeply concerned because I believe there’s a strong backlash against my father for speaking up so boldly about the prison conditions.

In truth, she claimed that the prison authorities were obstructing much of his email communication with her mother.

Although trying to keep the focus on others, she acknowledged that the situation could be overpowering on occasion.

Savannah shared during her April 2024 podcast episode of Unlocked: “It’s hard for me to grasp the idea that life goes on without Mom and Dad, much like I feel when those close to me seem to carry on with their lives as usual.

She went on saying, “I’m finding it hard to breathe normally, as I juggle finances for the children and manage my role as a parent, all while navigating my relationship.

2024 brought me the most exhilarating news: Julie’s seven-year prison sentence was overturned by a three-judge panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals! Though they upheld her convictions, the court graciously acknowledged that the judge in the 2022 trial had erred in calculating the reality star’s sentence. I can hardly contain my excitement!

The judges mentioned in their decision that the district court failed to clarify the evidence used to convict Julie for financial losses prior to 2007. Since we can’t locate this evidence ourselves, they have decided to overturn Julie’s sentence and send the case back to the district court. The district court will then need to establish the facts regarding loss, restitution, forfeiture, and resentence Julie accordingly.

The lower court was assigned to decide on the adjustment of her sentence, whereas Todd’s sentence remained unchanged.

After having her prison sentence overturned three months ago, an Atlanta court eventually confirmed Julie’s original seven-year imprisonment term. In a heartfelt show of remorse, she apologized, not only to the court but also to her children.

During the court hearing on September 25th, as reported by People, Julie expressed regret by saying, “Over a considerable period of time, I’ve pondered over what I wish to communicate. I want to express my sincere apologies for the actions and circumstances that have led us to our current situation.

She’s made every effort possible to reconnect with her family. She’s learned new abilities, including driving a forklift and serving food properly, as part of this journey. This phase of her life has been incredibly challenging. She can never fully repay her children for the hardships they’ve endured, and for that, she deeply regrets.

The Chrisleys are returning home, as they’ve been granted clemency by former President Donald Trump, who confirmed this during a conversation with Savannah on May 27, 2025.

Savannah expressed her gratitude to TopMob News, stating that for the last two years and six months she has tirelessly worked to secure her parents’ release and reunite them with their family.
